Job Description
Under the direction of the HIV Programs Manager and the HIV Programs Administrator, the Health Educator for the Primary Care HIV Prevention Project (PCHP) will implement grant deliverables in collaboration with the PCHP Team. This includes the use of a validated HIV Risk Screening tool to identify patients in need of PrEP, and the development and implementation of in-reach and outreach campaigns to engage high-risk individuals in PrEP. The Health Educator will also facilitate training about the benefits of PrEP for providers and clinical support staff. In addition, the Health Educator I will support data collection to capture required program metrics and program reports. It is mandatory to participate in community outreach events, such as Pride celebrations, health fairs, and other community events, to recruit potential PrEP clients.
Reports to: HIV Program Manager II and HIV Programs Administrator.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Public Health or related field.
2. Two years of experience working with LGBTQ+ populations in HIV prevention programs. Preferably in PrEP/PEP services.
3. Must be fluent in English (speaks, reads, and writes).
4. Must be fluent in Spanish (speaks, reads, and writes).
5. Effective verbal and written communication skills to communicate clearly and efficiently with medical and behavioral health providers.
6. Must have a pleasant, patient-oriented attitude and a professional appearance.
7. Knowledge of the health disparities spectrum of HIV/STI diseases, health literacy, harm reduction theory, behavior modification theory, human sexuality, substance use and abuse, outreach strategies, health and social concerns of individuals at risk of HIV transmission, transgender individuals, and sexual assault.
8. Current California driver's license, appropriate insurance coverage acceptable to the NEVHC's insurance carrier.
9. Flexible to work evenings and weekends to conduct community outreach events on short notice.
