About This Position
JOB SUMMARY
To provide nursing care to patients of all ages, from newborn to elderly as demonstrated by the nursing process. Data collected will be pertinent to the age and developmental level of the patient. The Emergency Department Staff RN is accountable for the provision of quality patient care. The Staff RN utilizes the nursing process to provide quality care to department patients. Accepts responsibility for maintaining and improving professional skills essential to the area of clinical practice. Supports the hospital's Mission and Value Statement Philosophy through shared values and service excellency.
PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned:
PATIENT CARE ACTIVITIES
ACTIVITIES RELATED TO PATIENT CARE
- Develops and maintains effective interpersonal relationship with patients, families, coworkers, medical staff, and other hospital personnel (see attached Peer Review).
- Maintains confidentiality and patient's right to privacy.
- Maintains a safe and clean environment.
- Delegates to LPN work assignment and oversees their work to ensure consistent standards of patient care per Washington State Nurse Practice Act.
- Participates in committees, meetings, and task forces for system improvements for quality patient care.
- Participates in community education and service, ENCARE, health fairs, flu shot clinics, etc.
- Documents follow-up contacts with patients via the department callback program.

- Carries own weight and takes an equal share of the workload. Is able to maintain a smooth flow of patients.
- Addresses problems with coworkers appropriately.
- Supports coworkers by offering assistance when needed.
- Provides a safe and clean environment; ensures availability of supplies and maintains equipment.
- Treats patients and other personnel as customers, is polite and cooperative. Offers extra comfort measures to patients, keeps them informed of delays, provides privacy and explains procedures.
- Capable of functioning under stressful situations.
- Reports to work and is ready for report on time.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Adheres to the standards of the Nurse Practice Act.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
- Adheres to hospital Mission Statement and ED Philosophy.
- Mandatory in-services are at 100%.
- Participates in quality improvement projects as assigned.
- Attends staff meetings, trauma conferences and education / training.
- Attends annual Skills Lab.
- Demonstrates motivation for maintaining/improving professional competence.
- Maintains certification in BLS and ACLS.
- Unscheduled absences do not exceed 2.3%.
- Performs other duties as assigned
JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Preferred: BSN
Training and Experience
- Required: At least one year experience as an RN in hospital nursing, Emergency Department preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people. Capable of functioning effectively under stressful situations.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job to serve patients of all ages.
WA State Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Required: Active WA State RN License
Clinical Certifications Required
- BLS, ACLS, TNCC, & PALS required. BLS required at hire. ACLS required to be obtained within 90 days from hire date. TNCC & PALS to be obtained within one year from hire date.

Wage Range: $37.450 - $70.012
