CORRECTIONS OFFICER
Applications are now being accepted for a pre-employment testing list. This position is being used to create a list of qualified and available candidates for multiple Corrections Officer positions.
Starting Salary: $22.59/hour Grade: N10
Shift Available: Shift Varies Full – Time (Non-Exempt) (40HRS)
Union: Yes
Summary of Job Functions:
• Provides direct supervision of inmates in housing units to ensure all policies and procedures are followed and inmate's needs are met.
• Conducts searches to include clothes and unclothed body searches, cell searches, property searches, and area searches.
• Conducts security rounds and ensures proper head county to maintain the safety of the inmates and the facility.
• Documents and maintains daily log of facility activities and/or incidents.
• Prepares reports in accordance with facilities policies and procedures.
• Maintains information in facility databases, including but not limited to commitment information, release or transfer information, property, mail, visitation, and social information.
• Observes inmates, their activities, and reports changes in personality, demeanor, and degree of program participation.
• Participates in non-professional counseling of inmates on situational problems.
• Checks incoming mail, clothing, and other items for contraband or other illegal items.
• Ensures all issued equipment is properly inventoried and operable.
• Supervises distribution of meals and medication to inmates.
• Ensures all doors are locked and facility is secure. Controls ingress and egress for staff, inmates, and visitors via touchscreen or key controls.
• Responds to emergency situations and acts within training and facility policies and procedures.
• Participates in planned an unplanned use of force in accordance with force continuum.
• Interfaces with inmates to determine their needs or problems.
•Escorts and transports inmates as necessary (i.e., for counselors, lawyers, or to other facilities).
Minimum Training and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Good communications skills and computer literacy. Military background and/or Criminal Justice background helpful. Must satisfactorily fulfill the requirements of a Training Academy certified by the PA Department of Corrections. Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license. Must pass a drug test/physical, as well as a background check.
