About This Position
Surgical Technician

POSITION SUMMARY: Functions in scrub role and as assistant to surgeon during surgical procedures.
EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Required: Graduate of an approved program in Surgical Technology and certified as a Surgical Technician or minimum 5 years Cardiovascular Surgery experience. BCLS certification; recertification required annually. Must be competent to perform in all areas of surgical services.

ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Incumbent must demonstrate an ability to apply age-appropriate principles of communication and clinical practice relevant to patients of all ages. Incumbent must demonstrate competence in the use of equipment and application of procedures before being allowed to perform independently.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Supervises: None
Reports To: Attending surgeon for carrying out prescribed and delegated medical regime.
Circulating Nurse with respect to specific assignments.
Surgical Tech Team Lead for scope of practice, competencies, and patient care.
Cardiovascular Surgery Unit Manager for patient care, operational and administrative issues.
