About This Position

Semi-skilled maintenance and manual work in various activities involving custodial and property maintenance of City parks and City properties. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor and sometimes under the general guidance of a Maintenance II employee. During occasions of local emergencies, this position shall be required to perform emergency tasks which may result in extended work hours as well as extended periods of time away from family members.

Candidates in this position will work 24 hours per week, working four days per week, and six hours each shift.
  • Performs daily restroom custodial duties such as clean/disinfect toilets, clean/disinfect sinks, clean interior restroom walls and mirrors, mop restroom floors, fill soap, paper towel and toilet paper dispensers and empty trash in all park’s restrooms and Recreation Center outdoor restroom to ensure restrooms are clean and stocked for use by the public.
  • Performs daily cleaning and disinfecting of all outdoor drinking fountains.
  • Sanitizes playground equipment and reports any maintenance issues to Facilities maintenance Supervisor.
  • Patrols parks grounds and picks up all trash, debris (limbs, moss, etc.) and dead animals. Reports any issues found to Facilities maintenance Supervisor.
  • Empties all parks trash cans and doggie stations.
  • Tracks number of bags of trash collected daily and records on the Trash Pickup Form. Submits completed Trash Pickup Form to Stormwater Technician monthly for National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) reporting.
  • Operates power blower and other related equipment to ensure all parks parking lots and sidewalks are kept in acceptable condition.
  • Posts Reserved signs and turns on power if needed for park shelter reservations.
  • Performs City Hall exterior duties such as blow off front and rear parking lots, pick up any trash on the grounds, empty trash cans and water flowers in front entrance pot, if needed.
  • Lowers flags Citywide when required.
  • Tracks inventory of restroom products and cleaning supplies and provides reorder sheet to Public Works Administrative Clerk when necessary.
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of all departmental/divisional policies and procedures and the City's Personnel Policies and Procedures.
  • Strives to maximize effective communications between assigned personnel, other employees throughout the City, and the general public.
  • Performs other job related duties that are consistent with assigned Department responsibilities.
  • Responds to emergency situations and assists with solving problems as they arise.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • May assist with City special events and seasonal activities such as setting up and working during City events and installing and removing Christmas decorations throughout the City.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
  • Pickup truck, blower, pressure washer, and other related hand tools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. One (1) to three (3) years specific vocational preparation preferred. Has good working knowledge of the practices, procedures, and activities of the Department as they relate to this position. Is able to follow instructions on work assignments and ability to use sound judgment in routine and non-routine situations which may occur. Has the ability to complete all assigned work in an efficient and timely manner. Has the ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time, including under unfavorable weather conditions. Has the ability to proficiently use the various types of tools and equipment required to accomplish the work in this position.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS

Possession of a valid Florida Class E Driver's License.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS

Heavy (fifty (50) pounds and over) lifting and carrying required. Performs physical tasks while walking, standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, lifting, reaching, etc.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Works inside and outside in varying conditions for extended periods of time.


Standards for Professional Appearance:

The image that the City of Seminole projects to the public is reflected in the appearance of our employees. Simply stated, employees should look clean, neat, well-groomed and should be dressed safely and appropriately for the work they will be doing. Employees are expected to use good judgement in their appearance and grooming, keeping in mind the nature of their work and the professional image that we wish to project to our community as representatives of the local government.

Below are a few guidelines for professional appearance*:

  • Clothing should be neat, clean, appropriate for the workplace, professional, and should not constitute a safety hazard.
  • Personal appearance includes good personal hygiene.
  • Facial hair should be clean-shaven or be well-groomed. (This does not supersede any departmental standards regarding facial hair.)
  • Visible body piercings or adornments shall be limited to two earrings per ear, unless approved by the City Manager. Other visible body piercings, including but not limited to: nose piercings, gauges, lip piercings, tongue piercings, eyebrow piercings, are prohibited.
  • Jewelry may be restricted for safety reasons, based on the position.
  • Hair styles should be neat, professional, and appropriate for the workplace. Hair dye, if used, should be selected from the range of naturally occurring hair colors.

Additionally, the following conditions apply to visible tattoos*:

  • Tattoos shall not be visible above the collar level of a crew neck tee shirt
  • Tattoos on the hand shall not extend past the first knuckle, closest to the wrist. Tattoos on the palm of the hand are not permitted. One discreet tattoo in the form of a solid, single color ring, not to exceed 8 mm in width, is permitted on the wearer’s ring finger (not thumb), between the first and second knuckle of the finger.
  • The display of unprofessional or offensive tattoos or brands, (nudity or violence, sexually explicit or vulgar art, words, phrases, profane language, symbols to incite negative reactions, initials or acronyms that represent criminal or oppressive organizations) are strictly prohibited.
  • The Department Head or City Manager reserve the right to require any tattoo to be covered.
