About This Position

Position Summary:
Camp Program Educators will facilitate weekend troop/group camping activities and special event programming. Programming includes and is not limited to STEM curriculum, arts, environmental and outdoor education, outdoor cooking, high adventure programs, teambuilding, archery, swimming, and more. Certification training will be provided for specialized camp activity areas.
This is primarily a weekend position. Camper check-in and programming begins on Friday evenings and concludes on Sunday mornings. Some weekday or weeknight events are possible as well. Schedule will vary based on event and activities offered each week. Onsite housing and meals may be provided.

Key Responsibilities:
• To incorporate opportunities for teaching courage, confidence, and character during daily interaction with campers and staff.
• Facilitate a supportive camp environment where campers learn to respect one another in recognition of the differences and similarities that each share.
• Led and/or assist in teaching outdoor skills and techniques and foster an appreciation for the natural environment.
• Create an atmosphere of teamwork by leading girls through teambuilding programming on and off the challenge course.
• Review safety procedures and programming daily.
• Assist in maintenance of equipment records and program areas.
• Facilitate daily camp programming activities as assigned.
• Assist in opening and closing of camp.
• The ability to assist Girl Scouts with a variety of needs such as conflict resolution, and behavior management.
• Follow camp policies, standards, and procedures.
• Carry out other non-essential duties as delegated by the assistant director of camps including assisting with camp programs or events, managing or organizing camp supplies & equipment, etc.
• Other duties as assigned.

Essential Requirements:
• This position requires registration as a member of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Prior experience serving in a non-profit youth setting including, but not limited to, the areas of recreation, education, or other social science preferred.
• Must have a basic knowledge of how to lead camp activities and manage groups, including customer service and conflict management.
• Must be a hard worker that is friendly, detail oriented, accurate, self-motivated, and willing to work in a team environment
• Be tactful and respectful with campers, staff, parents, and volunteers at all times.
• Demonstrate good judgment.
• Demonstrate sound professional ethics.
• Flexible and committed to personal and professional development.
• Good judgment in anticipating and preventing accidents.
• Be able to act calmly, quickly, and give and/or follow directions during an emergency.
• Knowledge of safety practices as applicable.
• Dedicated to delivering exceptional Girl Scout programming in the outdoors.
• Hold the minimum certification requirements of CPR and First Aid; willingness to obtain certifications in the following areas – Lifeguard training, BB Gun Handling training, Archery training, and High Ropes training.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule
Equipment Used: Standard office equipment – Computer, multi-line telephone, TV, audio visual equipment including laptop and LCD projector. Walkie Talkie, programming specific equipment.

Physical Activities: Typing, reaching, talking, hearing, bending, stooping and repetitive motions, driving and riding in car or van

Physical Demands: Sufficient strength to lift, push and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance. Walk up to 2-3 miles with ease. Stand and be on your feet for 3-4 hours at a time. Belay up to 120 lbs.

Software: Microsoft Office Suite; Microsoft Outlook or equivalent calendaring systems

Visual Acuity Required: Moderate Acuity: Preparing and analyzing data and figures using computer.

Work Conditions: Activities occur both inside, outside and at all GSSEM camp properties.
