SUPERVISION
General supervision is provided by the Director of Library Services. Responsible for supervision of Assistant Librarians, Library Technicians and Library Pages.
- All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct & Rules of Behavior outlined in Chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Adhere to assigned work schedule as outlined in city and department attendance policies and procedures.
- Oversee collection development including, but not limited to, reviewing, selecting, maintaining, and educating staff on physical and digital material selection, maintenance and withdrawal.
- Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of staff responsible for providing library services in the assigned area of the library. Participate in the selection of library staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures. Provide timely, accurate and thorough Performance Reviews for supervised employees.
- Prepare clear and concise reports and presentations on operations, activities and library programs.
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for providing library services; interpret, explain and implement City and library policies and procedures.
- Participate in the preparation and administration of the public services section of the library budget; submit budget recommendations; monitor expenditures.
- Basic understanding of computer networks and library automation systems and other technology. Be able to troubleshoot minor computer hardware and software problems; and assist customers at computer workstations.
- Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of library science and services.
- Respond to and resolve building maintenance calls; ensure building is secured at closing; report building maintenance problems to appropriate personnel.
- Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints from library customers and staff.
- Plan, coordinate and participate in library programs and outreach presentations in the community, and with other libraries and other city departments
- Provide the best possible customer service to the public.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist library patrons in using the library including responding to reference questions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Master of Library Science from an American Library Association accredited college or university.
EXPERIENCE
Three years of public library experience with increasing responsibility plus two years of experience supervising multiple employees.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Possession of a valid driver's license.

WORK SCHEDULE
Must work a 40-hour work week. Monday through Friday 8am-5pm, with occasional nights and weekends.
