GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Training Instructor is responsible for teaching, instructing, and analyzing training that is administered to field employees. The training instructor will focus on delivery and facilitation of training classes; the training instructor’s main focus is program application.
Must be flexible and adaptable to meet the dynamic needs of the organization; work environments vary from working in the field to traveling to multiple projects and regional offices to deliver craft training. Working early / late and travel will be required. Good interpersonal skills are required to work with other managers, trainers, subject matter experts, and trainees.
Strong analytical skills are required for interpreting and developing training sessions to ensure training program performance. The training instructor must understand how the instruction correlates to learning objectives.
Being knowledgeable in both educational methods and the content of the curriculum is needed. Work schedules may need to be flexible to accommodate field employees’ schedules.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide exceptional customer service to WBC, Preferred, and SEC employees.
- Prepare and conducts technical on-the-job and classroom training to teach and demonstrate principles, procedures, and subject matter knowledge.
- Continually evaluate and enhance instructional material, delivery methods, and presentation skills.
- Conduct skill / knowledge performance assessment based on established standards, offers recommendations for demotion, advancement and wage increase.
- Ensure all safety policies, procedures, and established safe practices, are followed while delivering training, correcting all unsafe conditions and reports these actions to his/her supervisor and Project Superintendent.
- Provides leadership to others through setting an example and sharing knowledge/skill.
- Participate in relevant training courses (craft, technological, safety, leadership, etc.)
- Perform or participate in additional duties as requested / required.
- Performs all assigned tasks, responsibilities and related work processes in the safest possible manner, always ensuring that a safe, accident/incident-free work environment is maintained for all coworkers, clients, suppliers, etc.
- Maintain confidentiality as an employee in the Human Capital Group; confidentiality is critical.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Secure or develop curriculum materials for courses included in the WBC training program framework for craft level employees.
- Assist with developing training classes and scheduling for all training classes.
- Research new, innovative training materials, opportunities, etc. and incorporate resulting “best practices” into the WBC Learning and Program (Craft and Supervisory Training Components).
- Assist the WBC Learning and Development Director with developing and implementing any “craft -specific” training modules necessary for implementing the overall training program at the craft levels.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure training programs are a reflection of the latest version of the appropriate “best practices”.
- Assist with the development of “personnel in training” approaches that enable WBC to prepare current employees for future leadership positions within the company.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area and meets other housekeeping needs specified by WBC.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Vocational Technical Education – preferred
- AAS or BS Degree in construction related field (e.g., Construction Management Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Building Construction Technology) or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience – preferred
- Background in Commercial Construction/ NCCER Instructional Material/Technical Education administration – preferred
- Five years’ work experience in heavy commercial construction – preferred
- Journeyman/Master Craftsman Status – preferred
- Vocational technical training/work experience in construction – required
- Bi-lingual English / Spanish – preferred
- Intermediate computer operations and intermediate software packages word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint, AI, etc.- required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, blueprints, specifications, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
- Ability to teach through various methods and strategies.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups, employees, and students.
- Ability to calculate percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations with limited standardization (i.e., interpret using independent thinking).
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, while prioritizing, organizing, and effectively delivering instructional sessions.
- Ability to create curriculum to address customer/stakeholder needs.
- Ability to utilize Microsoft Office suite of products, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

- OSHA 10 Hour or 30 Hour Credentials - preferred
- First Aid/CPR - preferred

- All-terrain material handler certification - preferred
- Aerial lift certification - preferred
- OSHA 500 Outreach Trainer Authorization - preferred

- Physical activity, with daily activities varying from administrative to field work
- Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers
