We provide comprehensive care through our on-site infusion therapy, laboratory services, and clinical research center. Built on a foundation of compassion, integrity, and excellence in patient care, we foster a supportive, team-oriented environment where employees are valued, collaboration is encouraged, and patients remain at the center of everything we do.

Overview

The Registered Nurse in the Infusion team provides direct patient care within Sarasota Arthritis Center’s Infusion Suite, administering specialty infusions and injections in a safe, compassionate, and compliant manner. This position ensures the highest standard of clinical quality, patient comfort, and adherence to provider orders, established protocols, and regulatory requirements. The RN plays a critical role in monitoring patient response to treatment, maintaining infusion efficiency, and fostering a positive patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care within the Infusion Suite, administering specialty infusions and injections in accordance with provider orders and established protocols.
  • Prepare patients for their infusion or injection by obtaining vital signs and completing prescreening questions per SOPs.
  • Start IVs for infusion patients and ensure proper venous access throughout treatment.
  • Monitor patients during and after infusions for adverse reactions, intervening and escalating to providers as appropriate.
  • Administer injection medications as ordered, confirming future appointments are scheduled prior to administration.
  • Document all clinical care provided in the electronic medical record (NextGen) accurately and in real time.
  • Collaborate with providers, medical assistants, and pharmacy staff to verify infusion orders, review prior authorizations, and confirm medication availability.
  • Prepare, mix (if applicable), and handle medications using aseptic technique and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Record drug lot numbers, expiration dates, and dosages for billing and compliance purposes.
  • Follow established standing orders, emergency procedures, and infusion suite safety protocols.
  • Conduct proactive prescreening for next-day patients when infusion volume allows.
  • Assist with seating patients, obtaining vitals, and completing intake assessments to ensure optimal patient flow.
  • Support teammates by helping with patient turnover, monitoring the suite for needs, and restocking supplies as necessary.
  • Maintain compliance with infection control protocols and ensure infusion chairs, workstations, and supply areas are clean and properly stocked.
  • Participate in daily checks of crash cart, temperature logs, and equipment readiness.
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, providing education on medications, potential side effects, and post-infusion care.
  • Foster a calm, organized, and patient-centered infusion environment while collaborating effectively with all team members.
  • Participate in department meetings, training, and quality improvement initiatives as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned. This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive list of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee. They may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.

  • Strong IV insertion and infusion management skills
  • Proficiency in EMR systems (NextGen or similar preferred)
