School Bus Charter Driver
Job description
Suffolk Transportation Service, Inc., has School Bus Charter Driver positions available for applicants who possess a clean, Commercial Driver’s License, class B with S, [School] and P [Passenger] endorsements. A Charter Driver is responsible for transporting authorized passengers to and from field trips, sporting events and more in a safe and timely manner with directions provided. Shifts operate on weekdays; weekends are not required.

Qualifications

• This position requires proper CDL (CDL Class B with P and S endorsements).
• State school bus certifications including adhering to state and federal guidelines regarding criminal, medical, drug test and driving records
• Willing to drive to a variety of locations
• Need to be flexible with last-minute changes
• Strong interpersonal & communication skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to work independently

Responsibilities

• Operating a school bus to safely transport passengers while providing excellent customer service are the most important tasks of the charter driver
• Assess traffic and road conditions, monitor passenger behavior and other factors as necessary
• Follow all state and federal traffic laws while operating the school bus
• Interact with teachers, coaches, students and co-workers in a friendly and professional manner
• Assist passengers onto and off the vehicle when necessary
• Perform pre and post trip vehicle inspections and safety checks as required by company standards and state guidelines
