Title: Assistant Operations Manager

Reports To: Operations Manager / Vice President

Location: Cheriton, VA

Type: Full-Time | Onsite | Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Operations Manager is responsible for assisting with the coordination and implementation of maintenance programs for the Truck Shop, Harvesters and Packing House. The Assistant Operations Manager will work closely with management, department heads and vendors to streamline maintenance programs and parts and supply inventories,

Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

TRUCK SHOP

  • Review truck and trailer VIRs and prioritize work to be done.
  • Work with mechanic on ordering necessary parts
  • Complete service write ups in collaboration with Mechanic.
  • Coordinated putting equipment out of service with VP and Operations Manager.
  • Keep parts inventory up to date in TMT.

HARVESTERS

  • Make sure inventory of parts in shop and trailers are up to date.
  • Check lead times on critical parts. Determine based on inventory which parts need to be kept on hand.
  • Coordinate with harvest operations needs for consumable supplies.
  • Verify completion of service write ups for harvesters is being completed. Sign off on service write up.

PACKING HOUSE

  • Cross train and learn roles of Maintenance Planner, Assistant Plant Manager, Packing Line Maintenance, and Shipping.

TRANSPORTATION & LOGISTICS

  • Coordinate back hauls to Florida with VP and drivers
  • Use load boards to find loads that meet criteria.
  • Coordinate trips with drivers
  • Collaboration with Pero Transport
  • Hiring New Drivers
  • Issues with drivers’ performance
  • Issues with Comdata
  • Roadside Service
  • Compliance with ELD and hours of Service

OTHER

  • All other Duties assigned as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in facility operations, fresh produce experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of heavy equipment, production equipment, production supplies and packaging.
  • Proficient in computer systems, Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed in a combination of office, truck shop, packing house, warehouse, and outdoor agricultural environments.
  • Regular exposure to operational areas containing moving machinery, heavy equipment, vehicles, forklifts, and maintenance activities.
  • Frequent interaction with mechanics, drivers, harvest operations personnel, plant leadership, vendors, and other internal departments.
  • Requires the use of computers, tablets, mobile devices, telephones, and other office equipment for communication, reporting, inventory management, and operational coordination.
  • May be exposed to varying weather conditions, temperature fluctuations, dust, noise, and other environmental conditions associated with agricultural and maintenance operations.
  • Occasional travel may be required to pick up parts, supplies, or visit operational sites.
  • Schedule flexibility may be required to support operational needs, equipment breakdowns, seasonal demands, and transportation activities, including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb stairs or ladders throughout the workday.
  • Frequent movement between office areas, truck shop, packing house, storage locations, and outdoor operational areas.
  • Ability to inspect equipment, parts inventories, vehicles, trailers, and maintenance work areas.
  • Use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, operating computers, mobile devices, tools, and office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through electronic communications.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read computer screens, maintenance records, inventory reports, equipment documentation, and transportation-related information.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle as needed for business-related travel and supply pickups.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull materials, parts, tools, and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work safely around moving equipment, machinery, and vehicle traffic while following all company safety policies and procedures.
