Job Description

Job Title: Senior Epicor Technical & Business Intelligence Engineer

Reports to: Jonathan Lang

Position Status: Full-Time, Exempt

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Senior Epicor Technical & Business Intelligence Engineer provides primary technical ownership and day-to-day support for Morgan Li's Epicor Kinetic environment and related reporting and data solutions.

Working within Morgan Li's business transformation roadmap and approved priorities, this role designs, develops, tests, deploys, documents, and supports maintainable solutions across Epicor Kinetic, Application Studio, BAQs, BPMs, dashboards, SSRS, Power BI, SQL, integrations, and related manufacturing systems. The position converts business requirements into controlled technical outcomes that improve data accuracy, operational visibility, user experience, and process efficiency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Epicor ownership: Provide primary day-to-day technical support and administration for the Epicor Kinetic environment, including issue triage, root-cause resolution, user support, security-related coordination, recurring processes, and operational continuity.
  • Solution delivery: Analyze, design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain Epicor Kinetic solutions using Application Studio, C#, BAQs, BPMs, dashboards, SSRS reports, custom UD interfaces, and other approved tools.
  • Business intelligence and reporting: Develop and maintain Power BI, SSRS, SQL, BAQ, and dashboard solutions that provide accurate, governed, and actionable information to leadership and business departments.
  • Requirements and process analysis: Work with Finance, Operations, Sales, Purchasing, Scheduling, Engineering, Shipping, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements and translate approved needs into practical technical solutions.
  • Problem resolution: Diagnose issues across business process, data, system configuration, customizations, integrations, reports, and user workflow; implement sustainable corrective actions rather than undocumented workarounds.
  • Data quality and controls: Identify data-integrity risks and implement appropriate validations, exception reporting, controls, and documentation to improve accuracy and reduce recurring errors.
  • Change management and documentation: Maintain documentation for customizations, BAQs, BPMs, reports, integrations, scheduled processes, technical dependencies, testing, deployment, rollback, and ongoing support.
  • Project and vendor coordination: Provide technical estimates, manage assigned deliverables, communicate status and risks, coordinate with approved vendors and consultants, and support upgrades, integrations, data migration, and environment activities.
  • Manufacturing process improvement: Apply manufacturing, Lean, quality, and shop-floor knowledge when evaluating workflows and designing solutions that improve usability, productivity, and process control.
  • Training and collaboration: Create user-facing documentation, support testing and adoption, provide training as needed, and build effective working relationships across technical and nontechnical teams.
  • Prioritization and value tracking: Manage work through the approved technical backlog, meet delivery commitments, and help measure consultant costs avoided, labor reduced, errors prevented, and cycle-time improvements.
  • Professional standards: Maintain confidentiality, ethical conduct, dependability, quality, safety awareness, and compliance with Morgan Li policies and approved technology standards.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Complex problem solving: Ability to define complex technical and business problems, gather relevant information, identify contributing factors, determine root causes, and develop practical solutions.
  • Systems thinking: Ability to evaluate how process, data, configuration, customization, reporting, security, and integration decisions affect the broader Epicor environment and business operations.
  • Decision making: Ability to compare standard functionality, configuration, customization, and outside support options while balancing business value, cost, urgency, data integrity, security, maintainability, and upgrade risk.
  • Prioritization: Ability to independently organize competing incidents, support requests, reporting needs, and project work according to business impact, dependencies, deadlines, and approved priorities.
  • Validation and judgment: Ability to test assumptions, interpret data, consider edge cases, verify results, document conclusions, and escalate decisions that create significant business, financial, security, or operational risk.
  • Continuous improvement: Ability to recognize recurring patterns, propose improvements, learn new tools quickly, and apply technical knowledge to increase performance and productivity.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Required communication skills: Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts, risks, options, and recommendations to users, managers, executives, vendors, and consultants.
  • Requirements and facilitation: Ability to listen actively, ask effective questions, facilitate requirements discussions, reconcile competing needs professionally, and confirm shared understanding before development begins.
  • Technical documentation: Ability to prepare clear requirements, solution designs, test plans, deployment and rollback instructions, support procedures, user guides, training materials, and project status updates.
  • Presentation and collaboration: Ability to present findings and recommendations, deliver training, participate effectively in meetings, and communicate progress, issues, dependencies, and decisions in a concise and accurate manner.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Required education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical discipline; an equivalent combination of relevant education and progressive experience may be considered.
  • Required Epicor experience: At least five years of hands-on Epicor ERP technical experience, including Epicor 10 and/or Kinetic, with demonstrated responsibility for support, development, troubleshooting, and production delivery.
  • Required technical experience: Demonstrated experience with Application Studio, C# or .NET development, BAQs, BPMs, dashboards, SSRS, SQL, relational databases, and controlled customization or extension of ERP functionality.
  • Required business experience: Experience supporting a manufacturing environment and working with cross-functional departments to document requirements, improve processes, resolve operational issues, and deliver maintainable solutions.
  • Required delivery experience: Experience managing technical priorities, testing changes, documenting solutions, communicating project status, and supporting production systems with appropriate urgency and accountability.
  • Preferred business intelligence experience: Experience developing Power BI reports, data models, external BAQs, KPI analytics, and governed executive or operational reporting solutions.
  • Preferred implementation experience: Experience with Epicor cloud environments, multiple Epicor versions, upgrades, data migration, go-live support, integrations, user administration, and production/test environment activities.
  • Preferred manufacturing background: Manufacturing engineering, Lean Manufacturing, FMEA, quality, production-flow, shop-floor systems, or related process-improvement experience is strongly preferred.
  • Preferred breadth: Consulting or multi-company experience, custom UD interfaces, report styles, labeling technologies, requirements documentation, project management, and database architecture are beneficial.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • No specific certification is required. Epicor, Microsoft Power BI/Data Analyst, SQL Server, Azure, or recognized project-management certifications are preferred but are not a substitute for demonstrated hands-on experience.
