Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior BI Architect. This role can be hybrid in any of the following states: Arkansas, Missouri, and Maine, or remote in Texas.
POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a Senior BI Architect to lead the design, governance, and evolution of Summit Utilities' enterprise analytics architecture. This role serves as the technical authority for Power BI, semantic modeling, data architecture, and BI development standards.
Working closely with Data Engineering and business stakeholders, the Senior BI Architect will ensure enterprise data is translated into scalable, trusted, and high-performing analytics solutions that support operational, financial, and executive decision-making. This position plays a key leadership role in establishing technical standards, optimizing platform performance, mentoring BI developers, and guiding the continued growth of our Microsoft Fabric analytics environment.
The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in Power BI, data modeling, SQL, and Microsoft Fabric with the ability to influence technical direction, solve complex business challenges, and develop team capability.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the design, governance, and optimization of Summit's enterprise analytical architecture, including Power BI semantic models, certified datasets, and reporting standards.Establish and maintain best practices for data modeling, security, performance tuning, deployment, and lifecycle management across the BI environment.Architect scalable analytics solutions that support operational, financial, and executive reporting needs.Partner with Data Engineering to define requirements for curated data models and ensure alignment between enterprise data architecture and business intelligence solutions.Design and optimize dataflows, semantic models, DAX measures, and refresh processes to improve performance, scalability, and reliability.Define and maintain role-based security and access controls across reporting environments.Monitor and optimize Microsoft Fabric platform usage, capacity, and overall BI ecosystem performance.Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and code review for BI developers while promoting development standards and best practices.Develop and maintain architecture documentation, data definitions, and governance standards.Advise leadership on BI strategy, platform capabilities, and future-state architecture decisions.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered.10+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, analytics engineering, enterprise reporting, or data warehousing.6+ years of hands-on Power BI development experience, including semantic modeling, dataset design, and advanced DAX.3+ years serving in a lead, principal, or architect-level role with responsibility for technical standards and architecture decisions.Demonstrated experience designing and supporting enterprise-scale analytics solutions.Experience working within Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services, or comparable cloud analytics platforms.Proven experience mentoring technical teams and establishing development standards.
- Experience within utility, energy, financial services, healthcare, or other regulated industries.Experience supporting executive and board-level reporting environments.Experience with SAP and/or SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC).Experience working in Agile or sprint-based delivery environments.Microsoft certifications such as DP-600, DP-500, or PL-300.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Advanced expertise in Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.Expert-level DAX development and performance optimization.Strong Power Query (M) and dataflow development skills.Advanced SQL development, tuning, and troubleshooting abilities.Experience with Microsoft Fabric components including Warehouses, Lakehouses, Semantic Models, and OneLake.Strong understanding of dimensional modeling, star schema design, and enterprise semantic modeling.
- Knowledge of data security, row-level security (RLS), deployment pipelines, and governance practices.Experience with version control, release management, and BI lifecycle processes.Ability to establish standards for performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Proven ability to mentor developers and influence technical direction.Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Collaborative leadership style with a commitment to continuous improvement and data quality.
