Job Purpose

The purpose of the intern position is to provide valuable experience in the construction industry. You will work closely with the project engineer and the project team on various assignments and learn various construction processes contributing toward project success.

Duties and Responsibilities May Include:

• Regular interaction with Project Engineers and Project Managers, project field staff, and other key stakeholders.
• Field engineering tasks as assigned.
• Review project plans to keep updated project scope
• Prepare work plans, manage and track costs.
• Complete safety, survey, and quality control tasks as required.
• Work with estimating, scheduling and applicable software programs.
• Prepare Request for Information (RFI’s), Submittals, Correspondence, staking requests, update logs, etc.
• Document control, project controls, etc.

Key Competencies

• Proficient in Blueprint Reading: Capable of interpreting drawings and details; understanding project and agency specifications and effectively applying this knowledge to the drawings.
• Creating Take-offs: Solid understanding of reviewing plans, specifications, and creating take-offs.
• Technical Software: Possess an understanding of Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and other technologies used in the construction industry.
• Knowledge in Civil Construction Materials: Exhibits a basic understanding of precast, pipe, waterworks, and general construction materials. Able to review and identify appropriate materials in vendor quotes and calculate material quantities in various unit measures.
• Familiar with Civil Construction Practices: Basic knowledge in construction phases, trade scopes, equipment, and labor resources required for civil-related improvements.
• Effective Communication Skills: Demonstrates proficiency in written, oral, and communication, facilitating clear and concise information exchange.
• Strong Problem-solving Abilities: Applies critical and methodical approach to problem-solving.
• Ability to Prioritize: Capable of prioritizing workload while maintaining accuracy in an evolving work environment.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Success in this role will be evaluated on objectives set by the Project Manager / Project Engineer.

Working Conditions

• This position is non-exempt (hourly) and is not eligible for company-sponsored benefits other than Paid Sick Leave. You will provide your transportation during this internship. Work hours and location vary each week and are up to 8-hour shifts Monday through Friday.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods, including uneven terrain on work sites when needed. Ability to maneuver paperwork and read a computer screen for extended durations.

• Currently pursuing a B.S. or M.S. degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong time management and organizational skills.
• Interest in a post-graduation career in heavy civil construction management.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
