Regional Safety and Training Manager - Transit

The Regional Safety and Training Manager is responsible for supporting and advancing the companys safety culture, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation efforts across assigned operating locations. This position partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Human Resources, and client leadership teams to implement safety programs, monitor compliance, investigate incidents, and deliver training initiatives that support safe and reliable transportation operations.

The Regional Safety and Training Manager provides leadership and guidance to frontline employees and local management teams while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, client, and company safety requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and execution of company safety policies, procedures, and standards across assigned operating locations.

  • Promote and reinforce a proactive safety culture through coaching, communication, accountability, and employee engagement.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable DOT, FMCSA, FTA, OSHA, ADA, state, local, client, and company safety requirements.

  • Conduct regular safety audits, ride checks, facility inspections, field observations, and compliance reviews.

  • Investigate incidents, injuries, and safety-related events; support local operations with root cause analysis and complete corrective action recommendations.

  • Monitor safety performance metrics including preventable collisions, injury trends, claims, violations, and audit findings, etc..

  • Partner with local Operations and Maintenance leadership to identify risks and implement corrective and preventative safety actions.

  • Support driver qualification compliance including DQ files, MVR reviews, drug and alcohol testing programs, and safety-sensitive employee requirements.

  • Assist with the delivery and reinforcement of safety training programs including defensive driving, ADA/passenger assistance, emergency response, and refresher training.

  • Conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks, and coaching sessions with frontline employees and managers.

  • Prepare and deliver Master training classes

  • Prepare reports, audit documentation, incident summaries, and compliance records in accordance with company and regulatory standards.

  • Support client safety meetings, operational reviews, audits, and regulatory inspections as required.

  • Assist with workers compensation, claims management, return-to-work coordination, and injury prevention initiatives.

  • Maintain current knowledge of transportation safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies.

  • Travel regularly within the assigned region to support operating locations and field teams.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 35 years of passenger transportation safety, fleet safety, risk management, or related operational experience required.
    • Or

  • 5+ years of experience in non passenger transportation safety.

  • Strong knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, ADA, FTA, and applicable transportation safety regulations.

  • Ability to conduct safety investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.

  • Must hold or obtain within 90 days the highest CDL license classification operated in their region.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Safety, Transportation, Occupational Health, Business, or related field preferred.

  • Experience conducting incident investigations, audits, and regulatory compliance reviews.

  • Prior training or coaching experience is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to build strong working relationships with operational and client stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Office applications and safety reporting systems.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
