Key Responsibilities:
- Wash, clean, and sanitize reusable dishes, glassware, utensils, pots, and pans
- Operate and monitor commercial dishwasher and cleaning procedures
- Clean kitchen counters, work surfaces, equipment, and storage areas
- Select and mix cleaning solutions in accordance with WHMIS and safety standards
- Clear tables and transport dirty dishes to the washing area when requested
- Sort and dispose of garbage and recycling properly; clean and maintain bins
- Sweep and mop kitchen floors and ensure safe, hygienic kitchen conditions
- Report maintenance needs or unsafe conditions to supervisor
- Assist with basic food preparation as directed
- Receive and organize food inventory in refrigerators, freezers, and dry storage
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions
- Collaborate with and support volunteers and placement students
- Contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and dignified meal service for shelter residents
- Perform other duties as required to support efficient kitchen and program operations
- Support cross-departmental collaboration, contribute to agency initiatives, and uphold CONC’s values
Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience in a professional kitchen or food service environment preferred
- Experience operating a commercial dishwasher and other kitchen equipment
- Prior experience in cleaning and sanitizing roles (e.g., dishwasher or porter)
- Completion of Food Handler Certification is preferred
- Familiarity with WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and kitchen safety protocols
- Physical ability to lift, move, and operate cleaning and kitchen equipment
- Willingness to serve food in a respectful and dignified manner when needed
- Ability to work cooperatively with team members, volunteers, and management
- Flexible availability, including potential for varied shifts
