Southern Highlands Community Mental Health Center is seeking a compassionate and motivated Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) to join our Jobs and Hope team in Mercer County.
As a Peer Recovery Support Specialist, you will use your own lived experience in recovery to inspire hope, empower individuals, and support those navigating recovery from substance use disorders. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary behavioral health team to help individuals build meaningful, healthy, and independent lives.

What You'll Do- Provide peer support and encouragement to individuals in recovery.
- Build trusting relationships through shared lived experience.
- Help connect individuals with community resources and recovery supports.
- Promote hope, self-advocacy, and personal empowerment.
- Work collaboratively with behavioral health professionals and community partners.
- Maintain accurate documentation and participate in team meetings.
- Support participants in achieving their recovery and employment goals through the Jobs and Hope program.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Lived experience in recovery from substance use disorder and/or mental health challenges.
- Minimum of two (2) years of continuous sobriety.
- State or nationally recognized Peer Recovery Support Specialist certification or completion of training required by the State of West Virginia to become certified.
- One (1) year of experience working with individuals experiencing substance use challenges.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
