Job Description
Oakland Community College (OCC) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Automobile Servicing (AUS) Faculty member to deliver high-quality instruction in automotive repair and maintenance. This position is ideal for an experienced professional who is passionate about preparing students for careers in the automotive service industry. The successful candidate will provide hands-on training, develop industry-aligned curriculum, and support students in achieving relevant certifications and employment in the field.
Expected Start Date: August 2026$62,440 - $70,857 Starting Base Salary ($62,440 - $112,678 full salary range for the 2025-26 Salary Schedule - *2026-27 Salary Schedule PENDING).
Potential for additional pay:
Overload – 60% over base
Supplemental contract
- Teach a range of automobile servicing courses, including, but limited to engine repair, braking systems, electrical systems and safety, steering and suspension, and preventive maintenance.
- Develop and update curriculum to reflect current automotive technologies, diagnostic tools, and industry standards.
- Integrate emerging technologies into instruction, such as hybrid and electric vehicle systems, computerized diagnostics, and advanced vehicle controls.
- Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications (e.g., ASE certifications).
- Maintain a safe, organized, and effective lab environment with up-to-date automotive equipment and fleet of vehicles.
- Mentor students regarding professionalism, employability skills, academic progress, certification pathways, and career opportunities.
- Collaborate with industry partners, advisory boards, and college departments to maintain program relevance and workforce alignment.
- Participate in college committees, program assessment, and professional development.
- Provide program direction, instructional priorities, and day-to-day coordination for AUS support staff in collaboration with the appropriate supervisor and/or Academic Dean.
- Will lead Program Coordination of curriculum, equipment, budget, and community outreach.
- Maintain and support a quality group of adjunct faculty each semester
- Maintain program performance benchmarks and accreditation for ASE Education Foundation (ASEEF) compliance
- Support student success metrics including retention, completion, certification pass rates, and job placement
- Instruction occurs in classroom and automotive lab/shop settings.
- Requires standing for extended periods, lifting automotive components, and use of tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Collaborate with AUS team members
- Associate’s degree in Automotive Technology or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in automotive service and repair.
- Demonstrated expertise in automotive diagnostics, repair techniques, and industry-standard tools and equipment.
- ASE Technician Certifications
- Michigan Mechanic’s Certifications
- Excellent communication skills and a commitment to student success.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Automotive Technology, Engineering Technology, Education, or a related field.
- Master ASE certification (A1-A8)
- Prior teaching or training experience in a postsecondary, technical, or industry setting.
- Experience with diesel, hybrid and electric vehicle technologies.
- Experience with curriculum development and use of instructional technology.
- Familiarity with workforce development initiatives and industry credentialing.
- Experience with OEM programs such as MoparCAP
