Position Overview:
The Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all safety, environmental, and occupational health programs within a large detention facility. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and Maryland safety standards. The EHS Manager leads safety inspections, emergency preparedness activities, hazardous‑materials management, and life‑safety system oversight to ensure a safe and compliant environment for staff, contractors, and detainees. This position includes 24/7 coverage, and may include overnight shifts, evenings, weekends, and holiday coverage.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Regulatory Compliance & Safety Management
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations, including OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and Maryland correctional standards.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the facility’s Environmental, Health, and Safety Program.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions to mitigate hazards.
- Maintain all required permits, certifications, and regulatory documentation.
- Safety Data Sheets (SDS) & Hazardous Materials Management
- Maintain an up‑to‑date Safety Data Sheet (SDS) library for all chemicals and hazardous materials used within the facility.
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with OSHA and EPA requirements.
- Train staff on chemical safety, PPE use, and emergency response procedures.
- Oversee hazardous‑materials spill response and containment procedures.
Required Qualifications & Core Competencies:
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in EHS, safety management, corrections, industrial safety, or facility operations.
Desired Skills:
- Experience in a correctional or detention environment.
- Experience with emergency management or incident command systems (ICS/NIMS).
Conditions of Employment:
- Employees must be a U.S. Citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the following screening:
- Federal background investigation (up to and including a Tier 4 DHS clearance)
- Criminal history check
- Verification of employment and education history
- Compliance with all government credentialing requirements
- Drug Screening
- Employees must adhere to all federal security, confidentiality, and operational protocols while working within government facilities.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write in English
- Anovaeon operates 24 hours/365 days and requires the flexibility to work additional hours, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Must show proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
- Internal background check to the satisfaction of contract requirements.
- If applicable, Child Abuse/ Neglect Report (CAN) or child protective services check with no adverse findings.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods while conducting data entry and interviews
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during facility operations (up to 8-12 hours per shift)
- Ability to lift, carry, and move supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions
- Capability to work in varied environmental conditions (indoor/outdoor, temperature variations)
- Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations throughout the facility
- Visual acuity for detailed computer work and document review
- Auditory ability to conduct interviews and monitor facility for safety concerns
Work Environment:
- Fully onsite position within an ICE processing residential facility in Louisiana
- Work schedules include 24/7 coverage, and may include shifts overnight, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Fast-paced operational environment requiring attention to detail and professionalism
