Job Description
Wear-Tek is a Steel Foundry and Machine Facility Located in Spokane, WA. Our foundry manufactures high integrity High Chrome White Iron and Steel castings, specializing in wear and heat-resistant components for the aggregate, power, agriculture and other miscellaneous industries.
The foundry worker position is a dirty and labor-intensive job; however, we have an excellent team of knowledgeable and dedicated people pulling towards the common goal of being profitable. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Use a variety of grinders to remove excess material from steel and iron castings.
- Make silica sand molds and cores.
- Melt and pour molten steel into molds.
- Operate lift trucks, overhead jibs, and cranes.
- Perform a variety of duties that require the use of heavy lifting, machines, power tools, and forklifts as needed.
- Adhere to safety rules and standards.
PAY AND BENEFITS
- $21.00 - $29.00 per hour.
- Paid tuition for enrollment in the Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee (AJAC) Industrial Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Program available after 90 days. www.ajactraining.org

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Regular attendance is required as a condition of employment in this position.
- Must be able to listen and communicate well, learn new jobs quickly, and work cooperatively with other members of the team.
- Must be available for scheduled overtime shifts.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in both hot and cold environments.
- Ability to climb ladders, walk up and down steps and work at heights.
- Ability to wear a respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus. Candidate must pass pre-employment respirator medical questionnaire.
- Must be willing to be part of a harassment-free work environment.
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug test.
EDUCATION AND PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
- Production and manufacturing experience preferred
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, type, or feel. The employee is required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high noise, consistent with a steel foundry and machine facility.
SAFETY
- All employees are required to report any safety concerns and encourage the safety of others.
- All employees in the foundry departments are required to wear steel-toed leather boots with metatarsal guards and a minimum 6” ankle height, approved safety glasses and hearing protection.
- Specific foundry positions also require additional protective equipment. In the melting and pouring areas, face-shields are required while operating a furnace or pouring metal. In the cleaning area, either clear face-shields and safety glasses, or clear goggles are required when grinding castings.
- Safety training and following safety policies and procedures for each department is required.
