Location: Anchorage, Alaska/On-site Non-remote

Pay: $85,000.00 to $95,000.00 per year DOE

Environmental Compliance Consultants, Inc. (ECC) is seeking a Mid-Level Environmental Scientist to join our growing team in Anchorage, Alaska. This in-office/in-person position is ideal for an experienced environmental professional with a strong background in fieldwork, groundwater and soil sampling, technical reporting, project and safety plan writing, and field team leadership. Experience serving as a Site Safety and Health Officer, SSHO, is a plus. The successful candidate will support and lead environmental projects for Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs, federal, state, municipal, commercial, and local clients throughout Alaska and beyond.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and participate in environmental field efforts throughout Alaska and other project locations as needed
• Perform groundwater, soil, surface water, waste, and other environmental sampling activities in accordance with approved plans, permits, and regulatory requirements
• Conduct field screening, monitoring, inspections, documentation, and environmental compliance support

• Support contaminated site investigations, monitoring programs, environmental assessments, remediation projects, and compliance inspections
• Prepare and maintain accurate field notes, sampling documentation, chain-of-custody forms, photo logs, daily reports, and other project records
• Develop, support, and execute work plans, sampling and analysis plans, quality assurance project plans, health and safety plans, and other project-specific planning documents

• Prepare clear, accurate, and well-organized technical reports, letters, memoranda, regulatory submittals, and project closeout documentation
• Assist Project Managers with project planning, staffing, scheduling, coordination, field execution, subcontractor oversight, and budget tracking
• Serve as a field team lead by providing direction to technicians, junior scientists, subcontractors, and other field personnel
• Support project safety requirements, participate in hazard recognition, and promote a strong safety culture during all field activities
• Prepare or assist with Accident Prevention Plans, APPs, Activity Hazard Analyses, AHAs, Job Hazard Analyses, JHAs, site-specific health and safety plans, and related safety documentation
• Coordinate professionally with clients, regulators, subcontractors, vendors, and internal project teams
• Evaluate field conditions, identify potential environmental or safety concerns, and communicate issues promptly to project leadership
• Support compliance with applicable local, state, federal, client-specific, and site-specific environmental and safety requirements

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or above in environmental science, biology, chemistry, geology, engineering, or a related science or engineering field
• Five or more years of experience in environmental science, environmental compliance, contaminated sites, field sampling, or a related field
• Experienced at preparing technical reports, work plans, project plans, and safety plans
• Experienced at leading field teams, coordinating field activities, or providing direction to junior staff or subcontractors

• Experience with contaminated site investigations, environmental compliance inspections, groundwater and soil sampling programs, waste management, environmental reporting, and remediation support
• Ability to analyze, understand, and present technical data
• Strong technical writing, documentation, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a project team
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs
• Valid state driver’s license and acceptable insurability
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening, including marijuana
• Ability to pass a background check to obtain and maintain access to federal installations
• Self-motivated with a strong work ethic, integrity, and sound professional judgment
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
• Ability to travel and work in challenging field conditions throughout Alaska and beyond
• 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is required and may be completed after the start of employment

Preferred Qualifications

• Site Safety and Health Officer, SSHO, experience
• ADEC Qualified Environmental Professional certification
• RCRA and hazardous waste experience
• Experience supporting Department of Defense or other federal contracts
• Experience preparing or supporting Accident Prevention Plans, Activity Hazard Analyses, Job Hazard Analyses, and site-specific health and safety plans
