HR Generalist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a HR Generalist based in the United States.

This is a hands-on HR operations role supporting a growing organization and its expanding business lines.
You will take ownership of critical day-to-day People operations, serving as a trusted resource for employees and managers.
Your responsibilities will span payroll, benefits, compliance, HR systems, employee records, onboarding, offboarding, and workplace administration.
You will play an important role in ensuring HR processes remain accurate, compliant, organized, and scalable as the organization grows.
The position offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to identify problems, improve processes, and implement more efficient ways of working.
You will work closely with People leadership and executive stakeholders while handling sensitive employee information with discretion and care.
This opportunity is well suited to an experienced HR professional who combines operational discipline with strong judgment, ownership, and a continuous-improvement mindset.

Accountabilities
  • Own day-to-day HR operations and provide timely, knowledgeable support to employees and managers on HR processes, policies, and personnel matters.
  • Manage employee changes including promotions, transfers, compensation adjustments, status changes, and other personnel updates while maintaining accurate records and documentation.
  • Develop, document, and continuously improve HR processes, procedures, and standard operating practices, identifying opportunities for simplification and automation.
  • Own the end-to-end payroll process, reviewing wages, deductions, bonuses, commissions, PTO, employee changes, and other adjustments for accuracy and timely processing.
  • Monitor payroll taxes, liabilities, multi-state payroll requirements, reconciliations, and tax notices, partnering with payroll providers and internal stakeholders to resolve discrepancies.
  • Administer employee benefits, including enrollments, eligibility changes, terminations, vendor coordination, employee questions, and annual open enrollment activities.
  • Manage PTO, leave programs, and related records while ensuring accurate and consistent administration.
  • Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment requirements across multiple states, including registrations, employment notices, tax notices, workplace documentation, audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and proactively identify potential compliance risks, escalating issues to leadership or external advisors when specialized guidance is required.
  • Manage day-to-day HRIS and People systems administration, ensuring employee information, organizational data, compensation, job details, workflows, permissions, and employment records remain accurate.
  • Use HR data to identify trends, discrepancies, reporting opportunities, and areas where processes can be improved.
  • Manage the administrative aspects of employee onboarding and offboarding, ensuring new hires and departing employees are accurately processed across HR, payroll, benefits, and other relevant systems.
  • Coordinate employment documentation, required forms, employee changes, and terminations across internal systems and external vendors.
  • Manage administrative responsibilities related to workers' compensation, including claims, audits, renewals, documentation, and vendor coordination.
  • Support administration of the company's 401(k) plan, working with providers to resolve employee and administrative issues and ensuring required processes are completed on time.
  • Maintain accurate HR documentation, internal resources, and knowledge bases so processes remain organized and scalable.
  • Handle confidential and sensitive employee information with a high degree of discretion and professionalism.
  • Proactively identify operational issues and take ownership of resolving them before they become larger problems.
Requirements
  • 3–5+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a generalist or HR operations capacity.
  • Strong understanding of multi-state employment compliance and applicable federal, state, and local employment requirements.
  • Deep knowledge of payroll processing, payroll taxes, deductions, liabilities, reconciliations, and multi-state payroll considerations.
  • Experience administering employee benefits, PTO and leave programs, workers' compensation, and retirement plans.
  • Strong HRIS experience with confidence managing employee data, workflows, permissions, records, and system changes.
  • Experience supporting audits, reconciliations, compliance requirements, and other detail-sensitive HR processes.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a consistently high level of accuracy.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and take ownership without requiring extensive supervision.
  • Strong process-oriented mindset with an interest in continuously improving HR operations and employee experiences.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive employee and organizational information.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, growing organization where processes and priorities continue to evolve.
  • Experience supporting multiple companies, entities, or business lines is a plus.
  • Experience working in a high-growth or startup environment is preferred.
  • Experience supporting remote teams across multiple states is beneficial.
  • Experience with Rippling or a similar HRIS is a plus.
Benefits
  • Annual salary range of $65,000–$75,000.
  • Opportunity to take ownership of meaningful HR responsibilities with significant autonomy.
  • Direct partnership with People leadership and executive stakeholders.
  • Opportunity to build and improve scalable HR processes, systems, and documentation.
  • Ability to make a tangible impact on employee experience and organizational growth.
  • Career development opportunities with the potential to take on greater responsibility as the organization evolves.
  • Opportunity to contribute to a growing organization with an ambitious mission and expanding business lines.
