Biller in Horseheads, New York at Smith Allergy and Asthma

Smith Allergy & Asthma Specialists is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Medical Biller / Insurance Verification Specialist to join our growing billing team.

This position will work as part of a collaborative billing department and will assist with multiple aspects of the revenue cycle. We are looking for someone who is organized, comfortable communicating with both patients and insurance companies, and able to manage multiple priorities in a busy medical practice.

• Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage prior to scheduled appointments.
• Review benefits and assist with determining patient cost estimates when appropriate.
• Enter and review patient encounters and charges for accuracy prior to claim submission.
• Submit insurance claims and review claim acceptance/rejection reports.
• Work claim rejections, denials, and outstanding insurance balances.
• Follow up on unpaid or underpaid claims with insurance carriers.
• Post insurance and patient payments accurately into the practice management system.
• Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and Electronic Remittance Advices (ERAs).
• Work accounts receivable (A/R) and assist with reducing outstanding balances.
• Assist with patient statements, patient balances, and collection follow-up.
• Respond to patient questions regarding insurance coverage, bills, balances, and estimated costs.
• Communicate with clinical and front-office staff regarding charge corrections, insurance issues, and other billing-related questions.
• Process paper claims when required.
• Utilize insurance carrier portals to obtain claim, eligibility, and payment information.
• Assist with billing audits and ensure charges have been appropriately entered and submitted.
• Complete additional billing and revenue-cycle responsibilities as assigned.

• Previous medical billing, insurance verification, or healthcare revenue-cycle experience preferred.
• Knowledge of insurance eligibility, benefits, claims, denials, payment posting, and accounts receivable preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Comfortable communicating professionally with patients, insurance companies, providers, and coworkers.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment.
• Strong computer skills and ability to learn multiple insurance portals and healthcare systems.
• Experience with MEDENT or similar practice-management/EHR software is a plus.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, ICD-10, and insurance billing guidelines is a plus.

We are looking for a team member who is willing to learn all aspects of the billing department and assist wherever needed as responsibilities rotate among the team.

Experience is preferred, but we are also willing to consider candidates with a strong healthcare or insurance background who are motivated to learn medical billing.
