Job Description

Senior Tax Accountant

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Tax Accountant based in the United States.

This is a fully remote opportunity for an experienced tax professional seeking variety, autonomy, and opportunities to grow within a collaborative accounting environment.
You’ll work across a diverse portfolio of tax engagements, including corporations, partnerships, individuals, fiduciary entities, nonprofits, and retirement plans.
The role offers exposure to increasingly complex tax matters, including international and Canadian-related tax work.
You’ll take on meaningful responsibility within engagements while developing client relationships and supporting supervisors with project execution.
As a senior team member, you’ll also delegate work, review returns, conduct tax research, and mentor developing accountants.
The position combines technical tax expertise with leadership, communication, and professional development opportunities.
A flexible culture, remote work options, and a strong focus on long-term career growth make this an attractive opportunity for an accomplished tax professional.

Accountabilities
  • Assist engagement supervisors with assigned tax engagements and contribute to the successful completion of client work.
  • Delegate appropriate assignments to staff accountants and communicate responsibilities clearly to engagement supervisors and team members.
  • Prepare complex federal, state, and other tax returns for corporations, including S corporations, partnerships, individuals, fiduciary entities, nonprofits, and retirement plans.
  • Prepare increasingly complex international tax engagements and develop expertise in Canadian-related individual and business tax returns.
  • Review basic tax returns and extensions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Conduct more complex tax research and apply findings to client engagements and tax preparation.
  • Develop the skills and professional judgment necessary to establish strong client relationships and build long-term client loyalty.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise staff accountants in tax preparation and engagement procedures.
  • Support the development of team members by sharing technical knowledge, providing guidance, and helping maintain high-quality work standards.
  • Contribute to a collaborative environment while managing multiple assignments and meeting engagement deadlines, particularly during the tax season.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated professional experience in tax accounting, with the technical foundation necessary to prepare and review increasingly complex tax returns.
  • Experience working with a variety of entity types, including corporations, S corporations, partnerships, individuals, fiduciary entities, nonprofits, and retirement plans.
  • Strong knowledge of tax preparation and research, with the ability to handle more complex tax matters independently.
  • Experience with or strong interest in international tax and Canadian-related individual and business tax returns is highly valuable.
  • Ability to review tax returns and extensions accurately while identifying issues that require additional research or review.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to delegate work appropriately, manage priorities, and support engagement supervisors in meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated leadership or mentoring experience, including the ability to train and supervise junior accounting professionals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the interpersonal ability to build positive client and team relationships.
  • Ability to work effectively and independently in a fully remote environment while remaining collaborative and responsive.
  • Professional judgment, reliability, organization, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality client service.
  • Willingness to work extended hours during tax season; the role averages approximately 55 hours per week during tax season.
Benefits
  • Salary: $70,000–$85,000 USD annually, depending on experience.
  • Flexible work schedules designed to support work-life balance.
  • Full-time remote and hybrid remote work options.
  • 37.5-hour work week from June through December.
  • Summer Fridays for additional flexibility during the summer months.
  • Family-friendly workplace culture.
