Higher Education Advancement Consultants

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Higher Education Advancement Consultant based in the United States.

This role offers an opportunity to help higher education institutions strengthen their advancement and alumni operations through strategic consulting and practical expertise.
You will work closely with advancement leaders and functional and technical teams to evaluate existing operations and identify opportunities for improvement.
Depending on the engagement, you may provide interim departmental leadership, lead business process reviews, support CRM selection, or optimize existing advancement technology.
You will help clients align their people, policies, processes, and technology to achieve more effective and sustainable advancement outcomes.
The role combines strategic advisory work with hands-on implementation, training, change management, and continuous improvement.
Consulting assignments may span different institutions and projects, providing exposure to varied challenges, environments, and advancement strategies.
Both full-time and 1099 consulting opportunities are available, offering flexibility to match different professional goals and working preferences.

Accountabilities:
  • Provide interim leadership for advancement departments, including day-to-day guidance, coordination, and support for staff and departmental priorities.
  • Oversee current advancement projects and initiatives, providing direction, structure, and subject matter expertise to help clients achieve their objectives.
  • Assess the effectiveness and efficiency of advancement operations, identifying gaps, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Evaluate existing policies, procedures, staffing structures, and responsibilities to determine how they can be better aligned with advancement goals and technology.
  • Lead business process reviews and help design future-state processes that improve operational effectiveness and user experience.
  • Advise clients on how to maximize their advancement and fundraising technology to support organizational priorities and business outcomes.
  • Support CRM selection and evaluation initiatives, as well as optimization of existing advancement CRM and ERP environments.
  • Collaborate with functional and technical teams to architect, develop, test, implement, and roll out process and technology solutions.
  • Design and deliver training that helps teams adopt new processes, technologies, and ways of working effectively.
  • Facilitate diverse stakeholder groups, build consensus, and help organizations prepare for change and continuous improvement.
  • Provide a consultative client experience by combining higher education advancement expertise with practical recommendations and hands-on support.

Requirements:

  • Bring at least 5 years of experience as a senior-level advancement professional within a higher education institution.
  • Have experience with the conversion, oversight, administration, or management of modern fundraising and advancement CRM platforms.
  • Be familiar with advancement technologies such as Ellucian CRM Advance, Raiser’s Edge, Blackbaud, DonorPerfect, Affinaquest, Salesforce, Banner Advancement, or Colleague Advancement.
  • Demonstrate experience assessing advancement operations and developing recommendations for process, policy, staffing, organizational, and role improvements.
  • Possess strong leadership and facilitation skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholder groups and build consensus.
  • Have experience preparing organizations and individuals for change while supporting ongoing operational improvement.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to translate complex operational or technical topics into practical recommendations.
  • Bring a collaborative, client-focused, and consultative approach to solving organizational challenges.
  • Be comfortable working across functional and technical teams and adapting your expertise to different higher education environments.
  • Be willing to support a combination of remote and onsite client engagements across the United States, depending on project requirements.
