Description:

The mission of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to honor the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. We also honor our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is committed to eradicating homelessness amongst our veterans.

The Career Advisor supports scholars and alumni in achieving long-term academic and professional success through individualized career guidance, professional development support, and employer engagement. This role works directly with students to strengthen career readiness skills and assist with preparation for internships, employment, and long-term career planning.

The Career Advisor will serve as a resource to scholars throughout their academic journey by providing support in resume development, interview preparation, professional communication, career exploration and individualized education and career pathway planning. The position will also assist in building relationships with employers and coordinating professional opportunities for scholars and alumni.

Requirements:
  • Provide one-on-one support to scholars and alumni, including resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, job search strategies, professional communication, career exploration, education and career pathway planning, and use of Career Center technology platforms (12twenty, Linked In etc.)
  • Assist scholars in identifying internships, employment opportunities, and educational, financial capability, and professional development resources.
  • Serve as a liaison between scholars and employers by facilitating communication, referrals, and career opportunities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate workshops, webinars, and other career readiness programming for high school scholars, college scholars, and alumni.
  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with scholars and alumni while encouraging participation in Career Center programs, mentorship opportunities, and professional communities.
  • Maintain accurate records of scholar engagement, career support activities, and program participation.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to support Career Center initiatives and scholar success.
  • Provide general support for Career Center operations and programming as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree and two years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience or interest in career services, education, workforce development, counseling, student support services, or related fields.
  • Working knowledge of military, veteran, and first responder issues through professional or personal experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities with the ability to build rapport with scholars, families, employers, and individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • High level of emotional awareness, professionalism, and discretion when supporting families experiencing loss; committed to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and follow-through skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a collaborative team environment.
  • Familiarity with LinkedIn and 12twenty software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office/ Google Suite (or equivalent).
  • Pre-employment screening, including a background check, is required.

Working conditions

Special working conditions may include: a change in days worked, shift hours, and/or working conditions (outdoors or other locations) when participating and assisting in special events needed.
