The City of Stockbridge is seeking dedicated, service-minded professionals to join the Stockbridge Police Department as Police Officers. This role offers the opportunity to protect and serve our community, respond when it matters most, and build meaningful relationships with the residents and businesses of Stockbridge.
Major Duties
- Protect life and property by enforcing federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and regulations while promoting public safety and crime prevention.
- Patrol assigned areas and respond to calls for service, including emergency and non-emergency incidents, suspicious activity, traffic accidents, alarms, and other public safety concerns.
- Investigate criminal activity and incidents by interviewing victims and witnesses, securing crime scenes, gathering and preserving evidence, and preparing detailed reports.
- Apprehend and process offenders by conducting lawful searches, making arrests, issuing citations and summonses, serving warrants, and assisting with the transportation of individuals as required.
- Enforce traffic and DUI laws and respond to motor vehicle accidents, traffic hazards, and other roadway safety concerns.
- Engage with and assist the community by providing information, resolving concerns, supporting crime-prevention efforts, maintaining positive community relationships, and providing assistance during special events and other public service activities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to apply principles of persuasion and/or influence over others in coordinating activities of a project, program, or designated area of responsibility.
- Ability to operate and control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools and/or materials requiring complex and rapid adjustments.
- Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information.
- Ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
- Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by completion of basic police officer training program; supplemented by 2 months previous experience and/or training involving law enforcement or security work, and training/work in area of specialized assignment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Special Qualifications
Must possess and maintain valid Georgia Basic Peace Officer Standard Training (P.O.S.T.) certification. Must possess and maintain valid Intoximeter Operator certification and Radar Operator certification. Assignment to School Resource Officer/D.A.R.E. Program functions requires possession and maintenance of valid School Resource Officer certification or D.A.R.E. Officer certification. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
Physical Demands
The work is heavy which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
