Position Type: Full-Time

Job Summary:
Marks Clearing & Grading is seeking an experienced Project Superintendent to lead field operations on heavy civil and site-development projects throughout the greater Raleigh market.
The Project Superintendent is the field leader of the project and is responsible for safely and efficiently executing the work in accordance with the project plans, specifications, schedule, budget, and company standards.
This position requires a hands-on construction leader who understands grading, underground utilities, storm drainage, erosion control, paving, and overall site-development operations. The successful candidate must be able to plan the work, lead people, coordinate resources, solve problems, and consistently drive safe and productive field performance.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
10 – 40 team members.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide overall leadership and direction for field operations on assigned projects.
• Plan, organize, and coordinate daily and weekly construction activities to achieve project safety, schedule, quality, and financial objectives.
• Lead company crews, foremen, subcontractors, and field personnel in the safe and efficient execution of the work.
• Develop and maintain short-term look-ahead schedules and coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and inspections accordingly.
• Understand the project estimate, budget, schedule, plans, specifications, and contractual requirements before beginning major phases of work.
• Coordinate closely with the Project Manager to ensure field operations align with the project budget and overall project strategy.
• Monitor field production and compare actual performance to planned production rates, quantities, and durations.
• Identify production issues early and implement corrective actions before they negatively impact the project.
• Ensure equipment and manpower are properly matched to the work being performed.
• Coordinate grading, utilities, storm drainage, erosion control, aggregate base, paving, concrete, and subcontracted activities.
• Maintain responsibility for jobsite logistics, sequencing, access, haul routes, material staging, and overall site organization.
• Conduct daily planning with Foremen and communicate clear expectations for safety, production, quality, and schedule.
• Participate in weekly project planning and coordination meetings.
• Review plans and specifications and identify conflicts, constructability issues, missing information, and potential changes.
• Communicate RFIs, changed conditions, extra work, and potential change-order situations promptly to the Project Manager.
• Coordinate required inspections, testing, survey, and quality-control activities.
• Maintain accurate daily documentation of manpower, equipment, production, subcontractors, deliveries, delays, weather, and significant project events.
• Maintain positive working relationships with owners, general contractors, inspectors, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and other project stakeholders.
• Assist with project startup, mobilization, closeout, punch-list completion, and demobilization.

Qualifications:
• 7+ years of progressive heavy civil/site-development construction experience.
• Previous experience as a Superintendent, General Foreman, or highly experienced Foreman responsible for significant field operations.
• Strong working knowledge of mass grading, earthwork, storm drainage, water and sewer utilities, erosion control, aggregate base, paving, and related civil construction.
• Strong understanding of heavy equipment operations, crew configurations, production rates, sequencing, and construction means and methods.
• Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, details, and project schedules.
• Experience planning and coordinating multiple crews and subcontractors.
• Understanding of construction surveying, grades, elevations, and layout.
• Basic understanding of GPS machine control systems.
• Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and heavy civil construction safety practices.
• Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to use construction technology, tablets, email, scheduling applications, and electronic project documentation.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to projects throughout the company's operating area.

Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods while spending time on job sites.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
