If you thrive on solving complex technical problems, enjoy troubleshooting sophisticated equipment, and want your work to make a difference, Chesapeake Public Utilities wants to hear from you!
We’re looking for an experienced Utility Electronics Technician II to help maintain the electronic, instrumentation, and control systems that keep Chesapeake’s sanitary sewer pump stations operating safely and reliably around the clock. In this role, you’ll put your technical knowledge and problem-solving skills to work on critical infrastructure that protects public health, the environment, and our community.
As a Utility Electronics Technician II, you will:
- Install, inspect, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electronic, instrumentation, and control systems at sanitary sewer pump stations.
- Diagnose and maintain programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), telemetry and alarm systems, level and pressure instrumentation, motor control circuits, generator controls, automatic transfer switches, data loggers, and related equipment.
- Troubleshoot system and equipment failures, identify solutions, and recommend modifications or operational improvements to enhance reliability and performance.
- Design, modify, fabricate, and install instrumentation and control systems and interpret technical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and PLC ladder logic.

- Assist with technical specifications, cost estimates, resource needs, and procurement of replacement parts, supplies, and equipment.
- Maintain accurate maintenance, repair, testing, and calibration records and help ensure critical replacement parts and equipment are available when needed.
- Provide technical guidance and assistance to other staff and help ensure equipment and work meet applicable codes, standards, and guidelines.
- Travel to sanitary sewer pump stations throughout Chesapeake to perform scheduled and emergency work.
This is a hands-on technical career where every day brings a new challenge. You’ll work independently and as part of an experienced team on a wide range of electronics, instrumentation, controls, automation, telemetry, and supporting systems while helping keep essential infrastructure operating 24/7.
If you have training and experience in electronics, instrumentation and controls, industrial automation, PLCs, electronic maintenance, or a closely related technical field and are ready to put that experience to work, we want to hear from you!
Bring your expertise. Solve the challenge. Make an impact.
