Job Description

Rust Automation & Controls has been in business since 1976, making 2026 our fiftieth year. We're family owned and serve customers across the Western United States as an industrial automation and controls distributor and manufacturer's representative. We sell instrumentation, controls, and automation products into process industries, water and wastewater, mining, energy, and manufacturing. Our business is built on long-term relationships and technical credibility. Our field and inside sales teams work with engineers, plant managers, and integrators every week. Marketing's job is to support those teams, strengthen our manufacturer relationships, and create opportunities they wouldn't otherwise see.

Position Overview

Position: Marketing Manager
Location: West Jordan, UT

We're hiring a Marketing Manager to lead the day-to-day marketing effort at Rust. You'll work with leadership to set priorities, then turn those priorities into campaigns, content, events, and tools that help our sales teams and manufacturer partners be more effective.

This is a hands-on role with a lot of variety: trade shows, manufacturer marketing, digital campaigns, content, sales materials, and our website. You won't be doing it alone. We already have marketing support, an internal development team, established manufacturer relationships, and leadership that is invested in making marketing a stronger part of the business.

Role & Responsibilities

Marketing strategy and planning

Work with leadership to set marketing priorities, including the markets we focus on, manufacturer lines we promote, how we position ourselves, and where we spend our time and budget. Then turn those priorities into action.

Trade shows and events

Manage industry shows, customer training events, and vendor events from start to finish, including booth logistics, pre-show outreach, lead capture, staffing, follow-up, and measuring results.

Manufacturer and vendor marketing

Work with our manufacturer partners on co-op marketing funds, joint campaigns, product launches, line cards, and literature. Make sure we're representing their brands well and taking advantage of the resources they provide.

Demand generation

Manage paid media, SEO, email campaigns, content, landing pages, and list building. Track performance and understand what these efforts are producing.

Sales enablement

Create and manage line cards, spec sheets, case studies, presentations, and other materials our sales teams use in the field. The goal is simple: give our salespeople tools that are useful and that they actually want to use.

Swag, literature, and fulfillment

Manage Rust and vendor swag, printed literature, and line cards. Forecast what our sales teams and branches will need, coordinate orders, work with vendors, and keep materials organized and available.

Brand and content

Maintain a consistent voice and look across everything we put out, including customer stories, LinkedIn, newsletters, website content, and PR where it makes sense.

Measuring results

Track things like pipeline contribution, cost per lead, cost per quote, campaign performance, and where our marketing dollars are going.

What makes this role different

Manufacturer partnerships are a big part of the job

We're a partner-led business, so working with our manufacturer partners is an important part of marketing here. That includes brand standards, co-op dollars, product launches, joint campaigns, and other marketing programs.

Experience on the manufacturer or distributor side is a plus, but it's not required.

Qualifications & ProfileWe're flexible on how you got here. Any of these could be a good fit:
  • Marketing management at an industrial distributor, manufacturer's representative, manufacturer, or another technical industry
  • A strong marketing specialist or manager at a larger industrial company who's ready for more responsibility
  • Agency experience serving industrial clients, if you're ready to come in-house and work more directly with the business and its results

Deep trade show and event experience is a real plus. So is experience working with manufacturer partners and joint marketing programs.

A relevant degree, equivalent experience, or a track record that speaks for itself can all work here. We care more about what you've built and how you work than exactly where you learned it.

You like people.

This job puts you in front of customers, manufacturer partners, and our own team constantly. Trade show floors, booth duty, dinners, meetings, and plenty of conversations. It isn't a desk job with a campaign calendar.

You finish things.

There are a lot of moving pieces in marketing. You need to be organized, keep things moving, close loops, and follow through.

You take responsibility.

You'll have support and a solid foundation to work from, but you'll be responsible for keeping your areas moving and making sure things get done.

You bring ideas and can execute them.

We want someone who will look at what we're doing and find ways to make it better. At the same time, you'll need to be comfortable taking an established program and executing it well without feeling like everything needs to be redesigned first.

You're comfortable with technical people.

You don't need an engineering degree. You do need to be curious about what a flow meter or control panel actually does and comfortable sitting down with an engineer and asking questions.

You're honest about the numbers.

If a campaign didn't work, tell us. We'd rather learn from it than find a way to make the numbers look better.

Benefits & Perks
  • Stability: Join a family-owned company with a long-standing reputation.
  • Growth Opportunities: Access to a wide range of training programs.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and a 401(k) savings plan with company match.
  • Culture: Be part of a motivated and collaborative team in a company that values its people.
Is This You?Do you:
  • Enjoy working with a motivated team that provides the best solutions for customers?
  • Exemplify what "great" looks like in your work?
  • Thrive on solving problems and tackling challenges?

If you said YES to these questions we want to hear from you! Join the Rust Automation & Controls family and help us make a difference for our customers and teammates.
