Summary
The Clerk Coordinator is responsible for the completion of all activities associated with the advance registration and insurance verification of patients referred to Ashtabula Regional Medical Center for diagnostic/therapeutic Cardiac Services. The Clerk Coordinator responds to physicians, patients, medical offices, hospitals, and insurance personnel. Primary work functions include:
- Obtaining and entering medical, demographic, insurance, and financial information
- Creation of the electronic bill and communicating pre-certification/authorization requirements
- Determines, documents, and communicates payment protocols
- Refers targeted self-pays to the Financial Counselor
- Participates in denial prevention
- Prepares QI information
Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High School Diploma required
- Must have excellent verbal persuasion and communication skills
- Medical terminology or the successful completion of a course within one year of employment, required
- Basic PC software application knowledge and ability to use multiple data systems, preferred
- Extensive knowledge of insurance and coding, preferred
- Excellent keyboarding skills are essential, along with excellent organization and prioritization abilities
Required Length and Type of Experience
- Two (2) years of customer service experience and dealing with the public on the phone or in person, required
- Previous experience using complex healthcare scheduling/registration software systems preferred
- Previous experience in a high volume call center environment preferred
Required Licensure or Certification
Must complete orientation and maintain BLS
Required Physical and Environmental Demands
Position is primarily seated at a desk using a PC and telecommunications systems with a headset. Must be able to stand/walk to retrieve documents from the printer and use a copier/fax machine. Must be able to stoop/bend/lift/carry up to 25 pounds.
