VP and Administrator Details

Essential Job Duties:

Senior Leadership

  • Models Union Health’s values and leadership attributes in a way that is consistent with its mission and vision.
  • Serves as a member of the administrative leadership team.
  • Participates in the development of strategy and facilitates execution of initiatives for the organization related to all areas of responsibility.
  • Ensures all areas of responsibility operate with high quality, financial stewardship, and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Along with the executive team and direct reports, facilitates financial forecasting and planning and development of operating budgets for all assigned functions in alignment with organizational priorities.
  • In collaboration with executive leadership, develops clear strategies and plans for areas of responsibility that will drive Union Health toward top decile performance compared to benchmarks.
  • Carefully considers and balances the needs and desires of areas or responsibilities with those of the overall system strategic direction, needs, and priorities.
  • Represents the hospital in the community and maintains good community relations.
  • Works collaboratively and respectfully with peers to achieve desired outcomes.
  • In coordination with the executive team, keep Union Health board members apprised of operational performance and status of strategic initiatives through regular written and oral updates, as deemed appropriate. Maintains high visibility within the organization.

Operational and Strategic Leadership

  • Set a clear vision for the teams and guide, mentor, and develop leaders to function at an elevated level, creating accountability for each team member for assigned areas.
  • Establishes objectives for the hospital, departments, and services toward the improvement of hospital services.
  • Maintains an organizational structure that defines and makes known the authority and responsibility of various positions and their relationships.
  • Assists in establishing sound and efficient principles of patient care and experiences for assigned areas.
  • Reviews, approves, and develops business plans for new services and programs for implementation, as well as for the purchase of capital equipment as appropriate.
  • Manages capital expenditures within the authority granted by the Board relative to debt parameters and approved budget.
  • Accountable for creating a supportive culture for safety, quality improvement, and customer satisfaction.
  • Identifies, recommends, and implements new processes, technologies, and systems to improve and streamline organizational processes and use of resources and materials.
  • Represents the system in dealing with outside agencies, partners, and relationships.
  • Negotiates, executes, or advises on professional contracts in collaboration with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Assists in directing and establishing policies and regulations.
  • Develops and reviews annual budgets with leaders of designated areas of responsibility; make recommendations that support improvement and innovation.
  • Presents periodic performance reports and metrics to the chief executive officer and other leadership and stakeholders.
  • Maintains physical properties in a good and safe state of repair and operating condition.
  • Establishes and maintains a functioning patient safety committee consistent with UHS needs and requirements. Maintains and periodically tests a plan for emergency operation of the hospital to provide for the safety and well-being of patients and personnel in the event of fire, explosion, or other internal disaster and for the provision of care to casualties from an outside disaster.
  • Maintains a list of all services furnished under arrangements or agreements.
    • Reviews the list of contracted services and verifies that contract responsibilities are delineated.
    • Reviews any arrangements or agreements to determine if the nature and scope of services defined are being provided to patients and comply with the CoPs.
  • Collaborates closely with physicians and advanced practice providers to ensure coordination, support, and alignment with strategic plans and quality, care models.
  • Uses data and evidence-based research to support sound decision-making.
  • Interprets legal and regulatory guidelines in coordination with appropriate experts and resources.
  • Assists in directing and establishing hospital policies and regulations.
  • Designates an administrative officer for the facility to serve during the administrator's absence.

  • Performs staff evaluations within the prescribed time outlined in performance evaluation and competency assessment policies.
  • Meets organization policies for education and training. Utilizes new internal and external information to improve performance.
  • Participates in Union Health’s Compliance Committee and adheres to the Union Health Compliance Program.
  • Completes other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in health care administration or related field is required, and five years of experience.
