Job Description

Job Title: Sr Accountant

Department: Accounting

Reports To: Director of Finance/CFO

SENIOR ACCOUNTANT SUMMARY: Reporting to accounting team’s Director of Finance/CFO, the Senior Accountant will have the opportunity to practice and develop a broad spectrum of skills, including analyzing trends that guide business decisions and assisting with the monthly, quarterly, and annual corporate accounting close process (e.g., fixed assets, roll forwards, reconciliations, journal entries, risk management, treasury, intercompany with sister companies, corporate budgeting, trend analysis, and reporting on budget vs. actuals). The Senior Accountant will assist in researching technical accounting, project and process improvement, ASC 606 Revenue recognition, and WIP progress billing.

Sr Accountant Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure in accordance with US GAAP
  • Hands-on experience with a variety of close tasks, helping ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close and Audits
  • Assist the treasury function with cash applications, payments, and banking operations.
  • Complete accruals for the month and year-end
  • Assist in analyzing current costs, revenues, and financial commitments, and provide analysis around variances from the budget/forecast
  • Research technical accounting issues that arise and draft related accounting memos
  • Work cross-functionally to improve accounting processes that affect the entire firm
  • Maintain the fixed asset ledger (additions, disposals, transfers, etc.), including depreciation and tax reporting, ensuring accuracy of data according to US GAAP
  • Manage and maintain prepaids, perpetual inventory flow, including the monthly close schedules
  • Prepare account reconciliations across the balance sheet (cash, receivables, payroll, fixed assets, etc.)
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify opportunities for process improvement, including automation, and help design scalable, system-based solutions that replace spreadsheet-driven workflows with potential for legacy to new ERP conversion
  • Provides support to other team members and staff as needed
  • Abides by all policies and procedures as identified in the Pierson Wireless handbook.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position does not currently hold any supervisory responsibilities, but will require interaction within the department and with those outside the department and the company.

Sr Accountant Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required (preferred in accounting or finance)
  • 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Vista, SAP, Oracle)
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills and attention to detail (Excel & Google Sheets)
  • Support external auditor information requests
  • Create a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) manual for accounting policy and regulations, and roll out reconciliation procedures
  • Play a vital part in the company's financial management, which includes all account reconciliations and reporting to the necessary parties
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency

    • Demonstrates follow-up skills

    • Prioritizes regular workload, special tasks, and concurrent projects, allocating time and resources to ensure that work is completed accurately and efficiently within an established time frame
  • Technical Skills:
    • Basic Computer Skills
      • Quickly learns and achieves proficiency in new software applications as needed
      • Demonstrates ability to create complex formulas in MS Excel; create queries in company software applications
    • Other Technical / Computer Skills
      • Thorough knowledge of internal company software applications applicable to the position/business unit
  • Other Skills:
    • Self-motivated
    • Team-oriented. Consults with Team members and management as needed to complete assigned responsibilities
    • Works with minimal supervision
    • Establishes and maintains effective, collaborative work relationships both internally and externally
    • Maintains strict confidentiality
