Property Accountant

Madison Communities
Charlotte, NC

Build communities. Drive financial clarity. Make an impact.

At Madison Communities, we don’t just manage properties—we create places people are proud to call home. Behind every thriving community is a strong financial foundation, and that’s where you come in.

We’re looking for a detail-driven, proactive Property Accountant who’s ready to take ownership of a portfolio, collaborate with teams across the business, and help us scale with precision and excellence.

If you love numbers, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and enjoy turning data into meaningful insights—we want to meet you.

What You’ll Do

Own the Numbers

  • Manage daily accounting activities for a portfolio of multifamily properties and related entities
  • Monitor general ledger activity and identify necessary accruals and adjustments
  • Prepare and post journal entries across revenue, banking, and property activity

Drive Accuracy & Insight

  • Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations with precision
  • Maintain supporting schedules (AR, AP, prepaid rent, intercompany, loans, accruals)
  • Analyze financial activity and investigate variances

Keep the Business Moving

  • Track and ensure timely payments (taxes, insurance, debt service, distributions)
  • Assist with accounts payable processes as needed
  • Calculate cash available for distribution and identify shortfalls

Deliver High-Impact Reporting

  • Compile monthly reporting packages that leadership can rely on
  • Support audit and tax processes with accurate and organized documentation
  • Assist with transactions like acquisitions, dispositions, and refinances

Collaborate & Improve

  • Partner with property operations teams and fellow accountants across locations
  • Support due diligence efforts and special projects
  • Contribute to process improvements that enhance scalability, controls, and efficiency

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • 2–3+ years of accounting experience (real estate or property accounting a plus)
  • Strong Excel skills (you know your way around formulas and data)
  • Experience with Yardi is a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with confidence

What Sets You Apart

  • You communicate clearly and collaborate well with both accounting and operations teams
  • You’re organized, detail-oriented, and take pride in getting things right
  • You think ahead, take initiative, and don’t wait to be asked
  • You’re comfortable navigating systems, tools, and changing priorities
  • You bring sound judgment and a problem-solving mindset

Why Join Madison Communities?

  • Be part of a growing real estate platform with strong leadership and vision
  • Work on a diverse portfolio with real impact on communities
  • Collaborate with a high-performing, supportive team
  • Gain exposure to acquisitions, development, and strategic growth initiatives
  • Opportunity to grow your career as we continue to expand
