Summary
The position is for an experienced engineer with expertise in power system simulation, data analysis, and design. The candidate will support research and development activities within the Critical Power & Electromagnetic Threats Program and contribute to the execution of technical projects involving power system modeling, simulation, and analytics. The candidate must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Applicants with an active security clearance are preferred.
Key Responsibilities- Perform power system analysis (time-domain and frequency domain) using simulation tools such as EMTP-RV, PowerWorld, PSS®E, OpenDSS, and related software.
- Design, implement, and validate power system simulation models and analytical methods.
- Support the development of new research capabilities and technical solutions for power system resilience and electromagnetic threat studies.
- Contribute technical expertise to project teams while collaborating with senior engineers, technical leaders, and subject matter experts.
- Assist in the execution of medium-sized research projects and technical tasks, including schedule and budget tracking when assigned.
- Analyze and interpret large technical datasets and develop actionable insights and recommendations.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and research deliverables for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support member engagement activities, workshops, conferences, and technical meetings.
- Develop software tools, scripts, and automation capabilities as needed to support research objectives.
- Stay current on emerging technologies and industry trends, including applications of AI/ML in power systems.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field required.
- 6-10 years of engineering, utility, research institute, consulting, or national laboratory experience.
- Experience applying computational methods used to analyze, plan, and operate electrical power systems.
- Experience developing and executing power system simulations and engineering analyses.
- Familiarity with power system modeling tools such as EMTP-RV, PowerWorld, PSS®E, OpenDSS, or similar platforms.
- Experience with data analysis and technical problem solving.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating within multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated initiative, attention to detail, and commitment to technical excellence.
- M.S. in Electrical Engineering with a Power Systems emphasis preferred.
- Experience developing asset and network models for power system studies.
- Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, C++, Delphi, or similar languages.
- Knowledge of AI/ML techniques and potential applications in power systems research.
- Experience supporting government, utility, or critical infrastructure projects.
- Ability to manage portions of projects and contribute to proposal development.
- Active TS or Q security clearance with SCI eligibility preferred.
