This senior consulting role offers the opportunity to lead complex, high-value improvement engagements across oil and gas refineries in North America. You will oversee projects typically valued between CAD 750K and CAD 3MM, ensuring disciplined execution from initial planning through final delivery and close-out. Your work will focus on operational improvement within areas such as gasoline blending and energy intensity, helping refinery clients unlock significant financial and performance gains. The role combines project leadership, technical refinery expertise, client relationship management, and commercial development. You will work directly with senior client stakeholders and multidisciplinary project teams in a highly hands-on consulting environment. With approximately 80% travel required, this position is well suited to an experienced refinery professional who thrives in varied operating environments and enjoys delivering measurable results.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the planning, execution, and close-out of complex oil and gas refinery improvement projects, applying consistent project management disciplines and ensuring successful delivery of both tactical and strategic objectives.
  • Develop and review project proposals and implementation plans, determining timelines, staffing requirements, resource allocation, project structures, and delivery strategies in collaboration with project leadership.
  • Define work plans, assign responsibilities and workstream scopes, monitor progress, and adjust schedules or plans as required to maintain momentum and delivery quality.
  • Establish strong working relationships with client project teams, serving as a trusted and effective point of contact throughout the engagement.
  • Monitor project milestones, financial performance, timelines, and sustainable improvement results to ensure commitments are delivered on time, in full, and within budget.
  • Prepare and communicate clear project status updates for management, clients, and other relevant stakeholders, highlighting progress, risks, issues, and required actions.
  • Proactively identify project risks, manage conflicts, and drive timely resolution of issues that could impact client outcomes or project success.
  • Identify, pursue, and help secure additional opportunities that can expand the client relationship and create further value.
  • Participate in training initiatives and mentor and coach operations professionals by providing constructive feedback and supporting individual development plans.
  • Contribute to internal improvement initiatives and ensure project teams follow applicable internal policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Support continuous process improvement initiatives using technical expertise, operational knowledge, data analysis, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of refinery operations management experience, supported by strong technical knowledge of downstream oil and gas environments.
  • 5+ years of downstream industry experience successfully managing workstreams in one or more areas such as Gasoline Blending, Energy Intensity, Hydrocarbon Loss Control, or Value Chain Optimization.
  • 5+ years of experience applying project management processes, methodologies, and practices to complex initiatives involving multiple stakeholders and workstreams.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering continuous process improvement and translating operational opportunities into measurable and sustainable business results.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related field with relevant refinery experience; an MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification is also valued.
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification is preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint; an Excel assessment is included as part of the standard evaluation process.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and communicate effectively with technical, operational, and senior-level stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, motivate, and influence individuals at different levels of an organization.
  • Adaptability and flexibility when working across different client sites, refinery environments, organizational cultures, and project requirements.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to recognize opportunities that can enhance client value and support further business development.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 80% of the time, typically Monday through Friday, to refinery and client sites across Canada and the United States.
Benefits
  • Competitive compensation: CAD 230,000–270,000 annually.
  • North American consulting exposure: Work on complex, high-value refinery improvement projects across Canada and the United States.
  • High-impact projects: Contribute to initiatives designed to generate substantial operational and financial improvements without relying on major capital investments.
