HR Generalist - Benefits & Retirement Administration in Smithfield, Virginia at Smithfield, Town of (VA)

The Town of Smithfield is looking for an experienced HR Generalist to lead benefits and retirement administration for our team. In Smithfield, you'll know the employees you serve, and they'll know you.

Anticipated start date: January 11, 2027.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Administer health, dental, vision, life, and voluntary benefits, including open enrollment, life events, COBRA, and FMLA.
• Manage VRS enrollment, reporting, and reconciliation, including the Hybrid Retirement Plan and 457 deferred compensation.
• Ensure ACA compliance, reconcile benefits invoices, and guide employees and retirees through their options.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and employee relations, serve as backup to the HR Director, and perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING

• Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
• Three (3) or more years of experience in employee benefits and retirement plan administration.
• Working knowledge of ACA, COBRA, FMLA, and local, state, and federal regulations.
• Strong communication, attention to detail, and the discretion to handle confidential information.
• VRS or public-sector experience and a PHR, SHRM-CP, PSHRA-CP or related professional certification are preferred.
