Account Specialist, High Value at Risk

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Account Specialist, High Value at Risk based in Canada.

This role focuses on managing and supporting high-risk, delinquent, and charged-off customer accounts while balancing strong customer service with effective loss mitigation strategies. You will engage directly with clients to understand their financial situations and provide tailored repayment guidance and solutions. The position requires a strong ability to build trust, navigate sensitive conversations, and maintain professionalism in complex situations. You will analyze account data to identify recovery opportunities and recommend appropriate actions. Working in a structured, regulated environment, you will collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure compliant and effective resolution strategies. The role blends customer relationship management, negotiation, and analytical decision-making. It is well suited for professionals who thrive in problem-solving within a risk-sensitive financial context.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will manage high-risk customer accounts while supporting recovery efforts and ensuring a high standard of service delivery:

  • Engage with customers on delinquent, high-risk, or complex accounts to understand their financial situation and identify suitable repayment solutions
  • Apply structured loss mitigation strategies to maximize recovery while minimizing financial risk exposure
  • Handle inbound and outbound customer interactions with professionalism, clarity, and empathy
  • Negotiate repayment arrangements and guide customers toward sustainable financial outcomes
  • Analyze account data to assess recovery potential and recommend appropriate actions or escalations
  • Maintain accurate documentation of customer interactions, transactions, and case updates
  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve escalated cases and ensure alignment with risk and compliance requirements
  • Support process improvement initiatives and contribute to operational efficiency within the collections lifecycle
Requirements

The ideal candidate brings strong communication skills, financial acumen, and the ability to manage sensitive customer interactions in a structured environment:

  • 3–5 years of relevant professional experience in collections, financial services, customer service, or credit-related roles
  • Post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong understanding of credit principles, lending processes, and collections practices
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, provincial, and regulatory frameworks related to collections activities in Canada
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage difficult conversations effectively
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess account risk and recommend solutions
  • Ability to work independently while managing time-sensitive and high-volume workloads
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Familiarity with financial products, customer service systems, and banking environments considered an asset
