ASSISTANT YOUTH COACH

Salt Lake Bouldering Project’s climbing team programs are in their infancy. Our assistant coaches help the head coach develop and grow our programs in alignment with our community and culture. We are seeking a talented teacher who can help climbers achieve their goals in a team focused format.

SCHEDULE - We are specifically seeking a coach who has consistent Wednesday availability between 4-6pm. Availability to substitute coach on Mondays and Thursdays is a plus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Work with the head coach to deliver comprehensive climbing programs catering to climbers of varying skill levels, including recreational and competitive youth climbers.
  • Assist with open house and tryout events to recruit climbers to our programs.
  • Provide expert instruction in climbing techniques, safety practices, and training methodologies to individuals and groups.
  • Coach during weekly practices and mock competitions.
  • Travel as needed to coach at competitions.
  • Model our values while providing motivation and support to athletes
  • Provide personalized coaching and feedback to each climber to help them overcome challenges, improve weaknesses, and achieve their climbing goals.
  • Actively respond to customer needs (both athletes and parents of youth), membership and event questions, inquiries, and feedback.
  • Work collaboratively with other coaches and managers to ensure program coherence and alignment with the organization’s goals and objectives.

Requirements:

REQUIREMENTS

  • Available to work evenings and weekends
  • Technical proficiency in climbing and coaching up to V6
  • Passion for working with youth climbers of all ages.
  • Possess a high level of athletic empathy
  • Previous experience in coaching/instructing
  • Climbing coaching experience preferred
  • First AID/CPR certification preferred

FACILITY SAFETY AND INCIDENT RESPONSE

  • Ensure the safety of participants, staff and other customers through group organization, oversight, and control
  • Actively promote risk mitigation through ongoing instruction and orientation
  • Respond to accidents and incidents following the BP Safety Manual and Protocol

WORKING CONDITIONS Many duties require the availability to work a flexible schedule based on program needs, including evenings and weekends. Some travel may be required for competitions.
