Job Description
The Registered Professional Nurse cares for patients by diagnosing and treating actual or potential health problems in the ambulatory setting without discrimination to age or gender through implementation of the nursing process. Coordinates care of other disciplines, delegates tasks to other nursing staff members, supervises care and evaluates results. Maintains competence in clinical practice and assists in the development of nursing practice standards through participation in professional committees and organizations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S)
- Current New York State Registered Professional Nurse license required.
- Ambulatory care experience preferred.
- Successful completion of department-specific orientation program (typically 4-6 weeks).
- Current BLS certification required or obtained within organizational guidelines.
- Strong clinical assessment, communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team environment.
- Knowledge of applicable regulatory, infection prevention, and patient safety requirements.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
Patient Assessment and Care Planning
- Performs comprehensive patient and family assessments utilizing subjective and objective data.
- Assesses developmental, physiological, psychosocial, cultural, and educational needs of patients across the lifespan.
- Identifies patient strengths, risks, and care needs.
- Formulates and prioritizes nursing diagnoses and develops individualized nursing care plans.
- Establishes measurable goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Modifies care plans based on patient response and changing clinical conditions.
Clinical Care Delivery
- Delivers nursing care according to accepted standards of professional nursing practice.
- Administers medications and treatments in accordance with provider orders and organizational policies.
- Performs and assists with ambulatory clinical procedures and diagnostic testing as appropriate to practice needs.
- Demonstrates competency in clinical skills and equipment utilized within the practice, including but not limited to:
- Venipuncture
- Medication administration
- EKG testing
- Spirometry
- Blood glucose monitoring
- Laboratory specimen collection and testing
- Culture collection
- Wound care and sterile dressing application
- Suture removal
- CPR and emergency response procedures
- Utilizes clinical judgment to recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
- Ensures accurate and timely documentation in the medical record.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Should be able to push/pull, lift/move 35 lb., be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a keyboard, writing, and filing for extended periods of time, must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as data entry, typing and using photocopiers.
Mobility requirements may include the ability to be stationary at a workstation for prolonged periods as well as the ability to stand, walk, squat, and move throughout the practice for reasonable distances and duration.
Communication requirements include the ability to comprehend spoken English and communicate effectively in both verbal and written English.

Salary Range: $29.44-$44-16 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
