Job Description
The Behavioral Health Transport Specialist (BHTS) plays a critical role in supporting client care and operational efficiency by providing safe, reliable, and professional transportation services within behavioral health and substance use treatment settings. This position is responsible for transporting clients to and from treatment programming, medical appointments, admissions, discharges, sober living residences, and other approved destinations while maintaining a supportive and trauma-informed approach to client interaction.
Responsibilities
The BHTS serves as an important point of contact throughout the treatment process and works closely with Operations, Admissions, Clinical, Medical, and Housing teams to ensure timely coordination and continuity of care. This role requires strong communication, situational awareness, professionalism, and the ability to remain calm in high-pressure environments. The Behavioral Health Transport Specialist also assists with transportation logistics, vehicle safety, documentation, and client engagement to help create a safe and positive treatment experience.
- Safely transport clients to and from appointments, activities, and designated locations in compliance with company policies, safely procedures, and confidentiality standards.
- Maintain professional, supportive, and trauma-informed interactions with clients during all transports.
- Coordinate transportation logistics and communicate with Admissions, Clinical, Medical, and Operations teams throughout the day.
- Provide timely updates regarding transport status, delays, ETAs, and completion of scheduled trips.
- Assist with client engagement and de-escalation when necessary to maintain client safety and comfort.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections and immediately report maintenance or safety concerns.
- Maintain accurate transport logs, mileage records, and incident documentation as required.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, safety procedures, HIPAA regulations, and state requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of assigned vehicles.
- Assist with Lyft/Uber coordination and alternative transportation arrangements when directed.
- Support operational coverage and assist leadership with transportation-related needs as necessary.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations.
- Basic understanding of confidentiality and HIPAA compliance standards.
- Demonstrated a history of safe driving and compliance with all traffic regulations.
- Maintains a satisfactory motor vehicle record in accordance with company standards.
- Support operational and clinical team as needed.
- All other duties as assigned.

Required Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
Required Experience:
- Experience in behavioral health, mental health, substance use treatment, transportation, or healthcare settings.
- Experience with client engagement and de-escalation techniques.
- Experience in behavioral health, mental health, substance use treatment, transportation, or healthcare settings.
Required licenses/certifications:
- Valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record.
- Ability to pass background check and motor vehicle check.
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Trained in the administration of Narcan
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Familiarity with GPS/navigation systems and transportation scheduling tools.
