Description:

I. INTRODUCTION

A. This position is located within the Raleigh Radiology facilities and free-standing outpatient imaging centers.

B. Work hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM- 4:00 PM

C. The primary function of a Patient Coordinator is to act as a professional liaison between patients and families. Provide exceptional patient care and help ensure all areas of registration are completed before a patient's exam.

D. The Patient Coordinator is well-versed in the requirements for registering all modalities.

E. This position reports to the Registration Supervisor.


I. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. General Duties 80%

1. Maintains standards of professional care and maintains patient confidentiality.

2. Implements policies and procedures of Raleigh Radiology.

3. Establishes and maintains open communication.

4. Maintains a clean, safe, and well-maintained supply environment for patients and staff.

5. On a regular, sustained basis, cooperates with other staff members both inside and outside the department in accomplishment of own job duties as well as assisting others in accomplishing theirs; serves as a team player and role model for other employees in the organization, always exhibiting traits of courtesy, caring, helpfulness, and respect; conducts oneself in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, cooperative, empathetic, respectful and kind with dealing with team members, visitors, public and all employees.

6. Greet and check in patients.

7. Works closely with patients, families, visitors, and staff to identify needs, answer questions, resolve problems, or provide other information.

8. Communicate with patients and clinical personnel to accurately schedule patients for appointments.

9. Collect and enter all necessary demographic, clinical, billing, and insurance information from patients or responsible parties.

10. Determine and accept required payments, including co-pays and deductibles.

11. Explain processes and forms to patients before securing signatures and ensure that all documents are properly signed and witnessed as required.

12. Ensure each account is registered accurately and completed before final billing.

13. Answer and triage incoming phone calls to get the most appropriate personnel or department.

14. Perform other duties and accept responsibilities, as assigned, including but not limited to scheduling and order entry.

Requirements:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE

A. Education: High School graduate with 1-year experience in a healthcare environment, an associate degree a plus.

B. Experience: 6+ months of Medical Insurance experience, coverage, and payments. 6 months of healthcare industry experience- hospital, doctor’s office, insurance provider.

C. Certification: None

D. Licensure: Valid Driver's License

II. DESIRED SKILLS

Ability to type 45 words per minute. Able to learn all applicable software programs as needed. Able to work independently, make sound decisions based on patient condition, and follow directions. Being bilingual is a plus. Flexibility, dependability, and professionalism are required.
