The Role: The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing accurate, timely, and compliant weekly payroll for both bargaining and non‑bargaining employees. This role is ideal for an experienced payroll professional who thrives on precision, confidentiality, and consistency, and who enjoys working cross‑functionally with HR, Accounting, and Operations to support employees across the organization.

What You'll Do:

  • Process weekly payroll for bargaining and non‑bargaining employees, including collecting and reviewing electronic timecards
  • Reconcile payroll on a weekly basis and resolve discrepancies promptly
  • Maintain payroll entries such as direct deposits, pay changes, taxes, benefits deductions, garnishments, and child support orders
  • Research and resolve payroll inquiries with a customer‑focused approach
  • Monitor PTO accruals, holiday pay, and related balances
  • Process manual checks, layoff checks, and ACH transfers as needed
  • Support new hire payroll setup, including E‑Verify and Indiana New Hire reporting
  • Maintain employee payroll documentation and personnel files with accuracy and confidentiality
  • Coordinate and update annual union wage and benefit changes
  • Process employment verifications and provide payroll reports to Accounting and leadership as requested
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

What You Bring:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree in Accounting or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of related payroll or accounting experience (degree may substitute for up to 4 years of experience)
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll processing, payroll taxes, reconciliation, and internal controls
  • Experience with automated payroll systems and ability to quickly learn new software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, including using Excel for payroll reconciliation and reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet weekly deadlines accurately
  • Strong problem‑solving, critical‑thinking, and customer service skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation
