As an Information Systems Security Officer Mid, the role supports a wide range of information systems. The position implements the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process as outlined under NIST publications 800-37 and 800-53 and enforced under DAAPM/JSIG requirements. Responsibilities include performing technical audits of assigned information systems and conducting periodic monitoring to ensure compliance with established standards.
The Information Systems Security Officer Mid assists and educates users to ensure proper handling of classified media and secure system operation. The role ensures systems are configured in accordance with required standards and evaluates and develops artifacts that demonstrate system configuration, procedures, and compliance documentation. The position also supports and educates users to ensure systems are operated securely.
Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining the Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability of SGS federal and corporate systems.
- Create, deliver, implement, update and maintain Corporate security policies and procedures
- Maintain and manage system security documentation, including System Security Plans (SSPs), Contingency Plans (CP), and Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms)
- Assist with the Certification and Accreditation (C&A) of standalone computers and networks
- Identify, assess, and document risks and vulnerabilities in accordance with RMF.
- Prepare, deliver, and maintain Authority to Operate (ATO) packages for SGS systems
- Follows established procedures to assist in the vulnerability scans and/or implementation of security measures and controls
- Participates in the security analysis process by applying security principles, methods (e.g., risk assessment, systems security planning, disaster recovery planning), and tools
- Review systems to identify potential security weaknesses, recommend improvements to amend vulnerabilities, implement changes, and document upgrades
- Identify organization risks, prioritize those risks, and maintain a risk registry for escalation
- Execute business impact assessments and system security reviews using a formal C&A structure
- Assess external cybersecurity risks to an organization either through customer or supplier interaction
- Follow audit policy and reporting mechanisms for ensuring compliance with customer standards and requirements
- Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
- Maintain ongoing awareness of system security posture
- Monitor, report, and investigate privacy incidents, breaches and unauthorized disclosures
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree from 4 years an accredited college or university in Computer Science or related field or any similar combination of experience.
Experience
- 5+ years of general work experience
- Intermediate knowledge and ability in determining a system’s security; recognize how changes in conditions, operations, or the environment causes impact
- Intermediate knowledge of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and ATO process
