Equipment Operator at Dem-Con Companies – Blaine, Minnesota

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Title: Equipment Operator

Status: Full-time

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Equipment Operator position is responsible for transferring, spreading and loading MSW, Clean Wood, C and D waste, and Single Sort Recyclables to ensure materials are transported and disposed of in an appropriate manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Transfer, spread, cover, load and/or compact solid waste or soil while operating excavators, loaders, backhoes, tractors and skid steers as well as off-road trucks
• Process materials for recycling while operating grinders and screeners
• Operate heavy commercial trucks, tractor-trailers and roll-offs
• Perform pre- and post-operation inspections on equipment and vehicles
• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and vehicles
• Maintain various records and/or logs
• Wash, lubricate and fuel equipment and vehicles
• Pick materials from incoming loads
• Carry out site grounds maintenance including; picking litter, mowing, weed whipping, street sweeping, plowing and dust control
• Perform building and other stationary equipment maintenance
• Perform other related duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or GED
• Previous experience with heavy equipment
• May be required to obtain various certifications related to assigned area of responsibility

WORK CONDITIONS: Outdoor environment; exposure to extreme weather conditions; work with and around heavy machinery; exposure to dust and fumes from motorized equipment; exposure to noise, odors and gases; exposure to heavy traffic conditions, possible exposure to toxic chemicals.
