About This Position
Position:Subject Teacher, Spanish, K-8
Status: Full-Time
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred Qualifications:
3+ years previous classroom experience
Strong knowledge of Waldorf education or a willingness to learn and grow within its principles and pedagogical practices.
Primary Function:
Subject Teachers are considered to be knowledgeable in their subject and are responsible for developing, planning, and teaching their programs.
Classroom Responsibilities and Duties:
Prepare and teach subject curriculum, guided by the principles of Waldorf education.
Develop and maintain a safe, harmonious social environment for the students.
Provide regular communication to Class Teachers about curriculum, student performance, and unusual incidents.
Begin and end classes on time to support the daily schedule.
Participation in recess coverage for grades 1 – 8.
Attend at least one class/parent meeting to explain subject curriculum, answer parent questions, and foster familiarity between parents and Subject Teachers.
Be available for parent-teacher conferences as requested by Class Teacher.
Arrange and participate in conference(s) with parent and support faculty members, as needed, to discuss student academic or disciplinary concerns.
Document observations of each student related to successes and challenges of presented curriculum.
Complete quarter, mid-year, and end of year report narratives covering student’s progress in subject class.
Submit reports by assigned deadlines.
Additional Responsibilities:
All teachers share responsibility for the well-being of the school. Aspects of this responsibility are:
Maintaining and striving for an openness to understand and work with the Anthroposophical underpinnings of Waldorf Education and child development.
Attendance and participation in weekly faculty meetings, In-service sessions in the beginning and end of each academic year (August and May) and spring of each year (February or March).
Post office hours providing a minimum of one 30 – 60 minute period each week for phone or in-person conference availability.
Attendance and participation in weekly Section meeting(s) as applicable to your position.
Attendance and participation in Class section meetings in the Fall and Spring, as determined in consultation with Class Teacher, to share experiences and observations about each grade.
