Options Community Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering social services across the Southern Fraser region (Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley) from early childhood to seniors. Our comprehensive range of programs and services relies on collaborative relationships with individuals, businesses, community groups and government bodies to create focused, effective and responsive resources for the community.
Looking to make an impact in Social Services? Join us in a supportive role as a Transition House Worker! Support women and children residents by providing referrals, coordinating children's programs, offering parenting support, and assisting with in-house responsibilities. This position is open to female applicants only.
Reporting to the Program Manager, our selected candidate will be assisting Transition House Worker staff to coordinate and implement children’s recreational activities, prepare and set up equipment or materials for activities and play sessions, and assist in meeting the physical needs of residents, such as linens, food, clothing, and personal toiletries. The role includes providing crisis intervention assistance through our support lines, contributing to the overall functioning of the program, and maintaining respectful communication with all residents, emphasizing client service skills, active listening, and clear communication. The candidate will also maintain program records and documentation, perform administrative duties as assigned, and assist staff in liaising with other agencies and professionals related to women and their goals. At no time will the candidate be working with clients alone; they would be assigned to work with staff at all times.
The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent, with post-secondary education in a related field and experience in a supportive role, preferably in social services or crisis intervention. They should demonstrate empathy and compassion for women and children facing crisis situations, along with crisis intervention skills. The candidate must have active listening abilities, effective communication skills, and the capacity to organize and implement children’s programs. Strong administrative and record-keeping skills, cultural competence, and awareness are essential. The ideal candidate is collaborative and team-oriented, able to maintain confidentiality, and knowledgeable about community resources. They should also possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
