About This Position
Summary of Position
Play a critical role in the quality, safety, and production at IDEAL Industries. Support day-to-day operations by performing tests, inspections, measurements, and documentation. Perform precision layout inspections and maintaining the gage calibration system and track compliance in the software system. Program and operate the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) and Vision System referring to blueprints, engineering specifications, and job instruction sheets.
Essential Job Functions
- Actively engage in responsibilities and initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.
- Comply with and contribute to the continuous improvement of company policies, processes and procedures.
- Perform varied quality assurance tasks with minimal supervision such as testing, inspection, measurement, and documentation.
- Perform and follow up on investigations into quality problems and customer complaints.
- Perform precision layout inspections, including first piece and on and off-site.
- Maintain the gage calibration system to assure compliance to ISO 9001.
- Program and operate the Vision System and CMM to verify that the product is compliant with engineering specifications.
- Coordinate activities for Underwriters Laboratory, Canadian Standards Association, and General Service Administration inspectors.
- Train machine operators and quality assurance team members of inspection techniques and systems.
- Complete documentation and tracking on spreadsheets, Microsoft Word, and gage calibration software system.
- Use various tools, machines, and equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, basic office equipment, and various metrology equipment.
- Monitor work visually and dimensionally referring to blueprints, engineering specifications, and job instruction sheets.
- Regularly practice 6S principles.
- Contribute to a collaborative, team-oriented workplace, which may include other duties as assigned.
- Regular, predictable attendance is essential to teamwork, timely information exchange, and meeting productivity requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Possess in-depth knowledge of precision measuring instruments and advanced math.
- Possess working knowledge of all assigned areas.
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of trade work.
- Follow directions, both verbal and written, including multi-step directions for complex tasks.
- Read, understand, and/or follow complex drawings and specifications, engineering diagrams, job instruction sheets, and wiring diagrams.
- Complete written forms and effectively communicate with others.
- Use visual acuity and hand dexterity to handle parts, supplies, tools, and other related work materials.
- Use color and depth perception for selected tasks.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED.
- 3 years of relevant experience is required.
- Associates degree in a technical field is preferred.
- 5 years of internal experience is preferred.
A satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training which ensures the ability to perform the work may be considered.
Working Conditions

- Effectively perform work in a manufacturing environment.
- Frequently move about work area.
- Occasionally work around production machinery.
- Positions self to move items at various heights, such as floor, countertop, shelves.
- Effectively communicate and exchange accurate information so that others will understand.
- Observe details at close range, such as documents, computer screens, tools, products, and machines.
- Move boxes through the facility weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally and boxes weighing up to 30 pounds frequently.
- Wear the required personal protective equipment to ensure safety from exposure to hazardous materials/loud noise/heat/cold/other.
- May require overtime or on-call shifts.
