About This Position


Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, plans and organizes a wide variety of youth and adult recreational programs, interprets and implements the goals and policies of the Recreation and Parks Department, and communicates with volunteers and participants. Supervises employees and contractors in the recreation programs.


  1. Performs a variety of planning, developing, implementing and evaluating of recreation programs, including, but not limited to, leagues, classes, camps and special events.

  2. Researches and recommends new program creation and development.

  3. Assists in the recruitment and management of volunteer coaches to ensure proper methods and procedures are being followed. This includes, but is not limited to, attending all pre-season coaches meetings, collecting background checks and concussion certifications, evaluating, and creating new resources for volunteer coaches to use.

  4. Performs equipment inventory to ensure all activities are fully equipped with safe and suitable equipment. Makes recommendations to the Recreation Supervisor on items needed based on inventory records. Assists in the ordering and distribution of uniforms for programs, leagues, and specialty camps.

  5. Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties; participates in professional development activities; attends staff meetings and industry related conferences, as directed.

  6. Performs general office work such as word processing, processing registrations, refunds and transfers, scheduling meetings, answering questions by phone, email and in person, following financial procedures and providing department specific information.

  7. Interviews, hires, trains and disciplines seasonal staff as assigned

  8. Works non-traditional hours including nights, weekends and holidays.

  9. Communicates directly with part-time staff, volunteer coaches and program participants via various platforms including, but not limited to, email, phone and face-to-face.

  10. Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or at least four years of the equivalent combination of education and experience

  2. Experience developing and administering youth and adult activity programming

  3. Experience with event or program planning and implementation

  4. General knowledge of a wide range of sports and recreational activities


Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, and the general public.


Mathematical Skills:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and has the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and the ability to deal with problems involving a limited number of distinct tasks and functions in standardized situations


Computer Skills:

Knowledge of internet software; spreadsheet software and word processing software.

Interpersonal Skills

Must demonstrate positive management, communication, leadership and motivational skills. Maintains composure and professionalism under pressure. Sensitive to deadlines and completes work accurately and effectively in a timely manner.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must have a valid State of Ohio driver’s license and be insurable by the City fleet insurance coverage.


Must have valid First aid/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External defibrillator (AEP) certification or the ability to obtain after hiring
