Job Summary:
Fruehauf is seeking a skilled and dependable Aluminum Welder / Special Projects Technician to support production and custom trailer modifications. This role is responsible for performing aluminum welding, fabrication, repairs, and installation of specialty components such as lift gates, trailer accessories, and custom equipment. This is a hands-on position that combines welding expertise with mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate is versatile, quality-focused, and able to work on a variety of projects beyond standard welding duties.
Key Responsibilities:
· Perform MIG and TIG aluminum welding on trailers, components, and custom projects.
· Read blueprints, work orders, measurements, and technical drawings.
· Fabricate, repair, and modify aluminum parts and trailer structures.
· Install lift gates, trailer accessories, lighting systems, brackets, and other specialty equipment.
· Assist with custom trailer builds, retrofits, and special customer requests.
· Use grinders, saws, drills, torches, and other fabrication tools safely and effectively.
· Inspect completed welds and installations to ensure quality standards are met.
· Troubleshoot fitment issues and make necessary adjustments.
· Work with Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, and Production teams on improvement projects.
· Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies.
· Maintain clean and organized work areas following 5S standards.
· Support production needs as assigned and assist in other departments when needed.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED preferred.
· Minimum 5 years of welding experience required.
· Aluminum welding experience required.
· MIG welding experience required; TIG experience preferred.
· Mechanical installation experience strongly preferred.
· Experience installing lift gates, trailer components, or hydraulic systems preferred.
· Ability to read blueprints and use measuring tools accurately.
· Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
· Forklift or overhead crane experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
· Requires minimum of 10 hours of standing, squatting, kneeling, pushing and pulling with a full range of body mechanics/movements.
· Must be able to climb and descend ladders, stairs, platforms and climb in, under, and out of trailers.
· Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with heat, noise, and moving equipment.
· Ability to use hand tools, welding equipment, and power tools daily.
